Sewing Machine Deals for the DIY Guys

Singer 111W (not sure if needle feed or compound)
$100
Kannapolis, NC

This has the old stitch selector. If changing stitch lengths regularly is important to you, make sure it works correctly. If it doesn't, you can adjust it manually with a set screw.

Juki DSC-245
$500
Moline, IL

This is an outstanding deal. Cylinder arm machines like this can be used for leather work, bag making, etc. And this one comes with a table attachment so you can do standard work without much hassle. Don't expect this to last long. I would be shocked if it isn't sold by the end of the day.

Relisted after first auction ended without bid:

Cutline 225
$179
Virginia Beach, VA

Should share specs with the Mitsubishi DU-100, similar to Singer 111/211 machines

For those following this thread, I'd like to buy a Juki 1900 bartacker sometime in the next 6-8 months.

If you happen upon a used one in your area, please send me a message. They're not cheap, so I'm willing to take a long drive or pay freight for the right one.

Pfaff 138
$300
Knightdale, NC

Zigzag and straight stitch machine, despite what the ad says.

Consew 206
$250
Huntington, MD

Amazing deal

Union Special 61900
$150
Pinson, TN

I owned one of these for a little bit, since it came with another machine I was interested in. It's a needle feed machine, that really impressed me with its design. There are gears connecting the top and bottom drive of the machine, and everything except the upper left side of the head is automatically lubricated with onboard oil reservoirs (no oil bath pan to mess with). The one I owned powered through a few layers of seatbelt webbing with no issues, and fed material exceptionally well with its drop/needle feed. Bobbin cases can be purchased for the machine, and as I recall, it uses commonly available L bobbins.

If you need a machine, for the price, I recommend checking it out. It will also work well on ultra light fabrics.

What about a singer 13608b? I see a lot of singer model 15 or clones ‍♂️ Is there anything I should watch out for?

Singer 15 or clone should be good per @bj139, but the 13608 is a Featherweight, right? That's probably going to be lighter duty than what you might want.

Singer 211W151
$200
Randall, MN

Heavy duty needle feed that shares many parts with the Singer 111W machines (cheap spare parts abound). Presser bar lift may be a limiting factor so bring materials to test.

Is this anywhere near you? May be worth scoping out.

Ok located smack dab in the middle of IL. Not a lot of FB marketplace post of machines for sale.
I did find a singer 403a. Will this get me started?
I’m just looking to start making some gear. My momis afraid I’m going to tear her 6233 up.

Singer 15 and clones excellent. Singer 201, 66, 99 very good. Look for 1/2 inch presser foot lift. Most have 1/4 inch including industrial fabric machines. I have a 221 which is your model number 13608 but i have never sewed webbing on it. On the first or second page of the sewing information thread someone mentioned it works well. The 221 seems to be a collectible machine and I have seen them listed for $300 while 15s often are listed for $50 or less.

Good call on her part. The 403a is definitely a more appropriate machine. You may find that you have to start with the needle in the down position to help the motor gain the momentum it needs to power through thick layers, but it should work just fine for you!

Ok perfect. I’m ok with slow injecting since I’m very green to it. But would I be able to see a saddle one day provided the lift is 1/2”?

@bj139 sobyour saying the 13608 is aka 221?
Which machine is more robust the 403 or 13608b?
