Show Us Those Hunting Bikes

For anybody thinking of biking to their hunting spots. Get a bottle of Flat-Out for $20 and fill up your tires with it. Works great. I ride straight through pricker bushes and all kinds of crap. never had a flat.

For carts, the hawk crawler works great. (i hate hawk but this thing actually is a good design).
Do you attach it to your bike? If so how?
 
This is my dads bike. I’ve used it on a few turkey hunts on private land and it has been awesome for that.

THat XD dual drive motor is interesting. Im assuming thats the motor you're getting on it? I think biktrix has the best bang for your buck out of most of the online prebuilt bikes. THey use name brand parts for a lot of it. I think the bafang 1000w motor would be plenty even towing a deer up PA hills but some people dont like the new ULTRA biktrix uses compared to their older BBSHD. Interested to see how that XD motor holds up. Looks beefy for sure. One thing to consider a part of the total investment is a bike rack that can hold an ebike (juggernaut xd weighs over 65lbs without a battery). THe dirtbike racks work good and affordable but they take a while to strap up. If you are putting in the back of a pick up just remember its not a regular bike and its a bear picking them up and moving around. and you definitely dont want that 6k bike bouncing around in the bed.

Trek, Giant, Yeti etc are companies that have been around a long long time that actually design and innovate many of their own parts and collaborate with many of the Ebike motor manufacturers.
There is a reason their Ebikes top out at about 80 Newtons of torque. Any more and the drivetrain has ridiculous wear and tear. You see it nonstop if you join the many Facebook groups for these companies like quietkat, bakcou, M2s etc. The cassettes get bent and teeth get torn off. Derailers are constantly bent. Theres extreme chain stretch and often breaking. A traditional bike drivetrain cannot properly handle the torque of the Bafang. Anyone who has one who says they never experienced that usually keeps the bike at power assist level 1 or 2 and in eco mode. Put it at level 5 full power mode and watch what happens.
If Im buying a powerful Ebike, I want the full power and capability unlocked. It'd be like buying a canam 1000 quad and only going 15 mph all the time.
The XD has the two chains. All the power from the motor goes through the heavy duty rear sprocket and Go-kart chain. This theoretically should solve the wear and tear. My only concern is how close the rear sprocket is to the rear rotor. I have to imagine some lube is gunna flicker off the chain onto the rotor and contaminate the brakes.
The bike is more like dirt bike bicycle hybrid. You pedal normally and when you want power you turn the throttle like a dirt bikes. Pedal assist is a feature coming in the future.
That also brings me to a standard Bafang is not supposed to be the sole power moving you along. It is strongly recommended to not use just the throttle as you can burn the motor up.
I spoke to Biktrix about this, as on my way in is all uphill for 3 miles and I don't want to sweat up. They said I can use the throttle non stop all day forever and itll never break a sweat.

FWIW i have put 200+ offroad miles on my BBSHD at all power levels in the mountains and hills so far and the drive train is completely intact. I did a tune up at 100 and 200 with just some minor adjustments. It's cheap parts that are easy to swap if something does go wrong. Plus I can break down and work on the entire motor myself if need be and parts are cheap and readily available

I thought the Bafang Ultra 1000w was nearly bulletproof. It is a little noisy compared to some other ones.

I believe you. There's certainly exceptions. But you also said you did a tune up at JUST 100 miles. That may not be a big deal to people. Im very mechanically inclined and my own bike mechanic. I want close to zero maintenance and rather ride the thing

I mean it was a 5 minute lube and a quarter turn of a screw but point taken for sure
 
I agree with every thing your saying. Lots of people go a thousand miles with nothing done to the bbshd itself. I went with that motor because of the track record. im sure people wreck their cassettes and derailers especially on bikes that come with cheaper drivetrain components. it has a lot of torque and chain alignment is pretty important to avoid damaging things. Theres other options i could have picked but i will wait and see how they do after 5 or 6 yrs on the market. lots of replacement parts for the bbshd if anything goes wrong. I programmed mine when i built it so its not jerking on my deraileur or cassette if i go straight into throttle and i have a cut off switch (horn) i wired to my display that will temporarily shut off power for shifting until i release the button. The gear shift sensors they sell dont have a long enough cut off for this IMO . I have a decent cassette on the back (but will probably switch to a box drivetrain shortly for the same reasons your talking about), a beefier kmc e chain and a 30T chainring on the front so its not working the motor as hard as the 46T. If im in a granny gear and i know its going to put a lot of torque on my rear cogs i am not usually going to be on 5 power. I definitely ride more in the style of 1 and 2 power only so it works for me. Ive definitely played around with it to see what its capable of but im not riding it wide open throttle from dead stop all the time. Even if i go from dead stop using throttle its easy enough to program so it doesnt just rip into full power and break something.
I dont care about speed too much. it goes plenty fast offroad for me about 18mph or so in 5th gear on full power and the biggest thing i wanted was something quiet. I have no idea what the XD motor sounds like (not a lot of reviews on it and its hard to get a feel for noise on go pro cams) but i know CYC were a little too loud for what i wanted my bike to do. You literally cant hear it over the tires. The new CYC Photon is apparently pretty quiet too but i have no idea how dependable theyre going to be.

I think Biktrix has a good thing going. If i had the money maybe i would have gone that route. I had to keep my build around 2k so its what worked for me. One thing i would add on that XD bike would be a suntour suspension seatpost. Its been my favorite add on so far for the money spent. I think i bought mine off their website on sale for about $80 shipped.
 
I think what jacks the cassettes up on these high torque bikes is riding in the same/wrong gear all the time., I used to ride my Bakcou in 5th gear 24/7 and in 100 miles of doing so, it wore the cassette out in that spot.
