Single action revolvers

Yes, and it is about the safest way to reload. Use 3F (FFFG) powder and you want to get a slight compression of the powder when you seat and crimp the bullet. Compression is key. As long as its 3F or even 2F you can't put too much in a handgun cartridge, unlike smokeless powder, where you can easily overcharge. Measure the depth of the bullet will go into the case and fill the case just past that a little so the bullet compresses the powder when seated. A good bullet lube for black powder loads in SPG. Cleanup afterward is pretty easy. Use very hot water with some Balistol oil mixed in. Balistol in the only oil I know of that mixes with water. The water will neutralize the nitrate salts and flush them away and the oil will remain in the nooks and crannies after the hot water evaporates. Then clean as usual and oil.
Awesome! Thanks man! That’s the direction I was heading with 3f. Filling the case and measuring the bullet. I cannot wait! Just need some bullets that arnt petroleum based lube I’ve read.

Following. I had a Ruger Blackhawk flat top in 45lc 7.5. It was not great in the accuracy department even from a bench I could do better with any other revolver or pistol I had from free standing. Sold it and have been looking for another option. Love single actions but I doubt I’ll buy another ruger.

Rugers in 45 Colt often suffer from tight cylinder throats; not a chronic issue with the other calibers. Not sure why, but gunsmiths can ream the 45s to proper dimensions. My 44 Specials are both quite accurate; one bone-stock, with the other converted to 44 S from 357 M.

Yep read all about that. Decided I didn’t want to have to ream a brand new gun. It’s been a documented issue for years, not sure why Ruger hasn’t fixed it. Not to go all out bashing Ruger but I have purchased 4 different firearms from them in the last decade and had major issues with 3 of them. Though I do love their lcr. With that said anyone have experience with Taylor and Co?

I had a 45 ruger with same issue. Rented the reamer from 4d rentals and bore polisher. This is not all I did to the gun. But for about $100 and a couple hours it made one sweet shooter easily under 2” at 50 yards from the bench with a swift a-frame 265gr and full dose of h110. Another gun that got away.

You are welcome. What cartridge?

Rn just .38 special! Looking to eventually get into .357, .45lc, 45-70 that type stuff! Needs more guns first though
You should look into casting. It is a whole peripheral hobby in itself and is a lot of fun. The benefits are self-reliance, customization, and cost savings (once you make enough to offset the cost of the molds and equipment). For 38, the classic round nose is the Lyman 358311. Lyman 2-Cavity Bullet Mold #358311 38 Special 357 Mag (358 Diameter) (midwayusa.com)

I like NOE molds. They make a 5-cavity plain base that would work well. 360-161-RN-BT2 5 Cavity PB | NOE Bullet Moulds (noebulletmolds.com)

For the 45 colt, the classic is the Lyman 454190. This profile is as close to the original slug brought out in 1873 as you can really get. It's been doing what it does for a long time. A great hunting profile for the colt is Lyman's 454424, an Elmer Keith design. Pushed at about 850 to 900 fps it will go lengthwise through a deer. 454-255-SWC-AD4 5 Cavity PB | NOE Bullet Moulds (noebulletmolds.com)

I’ve considered it! I need to look more into it haha

When you do yo
I mostly run Lee moulds (bc I'm cheap) but pretty much everyone else makes a superior product. One of these days I'm going to bite the bullet and get the NOE mould specially for the K31 Schmidt-Rubin; in addition to being made for that throat it looks like a solid all-purpose .30 cal boolit.
