Went out this afternoon for the second familiarization round with my spurs. Man it was so much better this time. Got to 20ish feet pretty quick. Coming down was not that much fun. I think rappelling is the answer.

Setting everything up was a little tricky, but not awful. Would definitely get faster with experience. Platform, bow hanger and tether took a few minutes. Overall it was a success.

I searched for a while and had a hard time finding a decent used set. Ended up spending a couple hundred on a new set.

I have seen this post by many. Most of the used market is old steel stuff with non replaceable fixed spurs.

I haven't had an issue yet but I stand a fair amount on my platform rather than sitting in my saddle. And I'm more of a leaner than a sitter in my saddle.

Also, it's by far the easiest harness to drop a deuce from an elevated position.
I know this is older but I have been reading everything I can find on the Sit n Drag so that once I pull the trigger, I know exactly what I (think I) want to do.

This is not really something I ever thought about or would do, but it sure did make me laugh when I read it! Thought a few of you could use a laugh on this fine Thursday.

Went on my first hunt tonight. Awful.

Preset would be ok, but hanging the sticks was no bueno. Won't be doing that again until it cools off.

This was also my first full sit since doing all my SD mods. This thing is so comfortable and easy to use. I love it.

What were your modifications exactly. I just opened my SD up, and I have been reading so much I might be getting overeducated.

I like the video by g2. Of all the mods I think a belt is the most important to do before playing with it from an elevated position. Saddles are pretty new to me but I can tell you it's no fun to lean forward take the weight out of the saddle to adjust your tether only to have the sit drag fall to the back of your knees just as you lean back. If you grab the Prussic knot to catch yourself you will continue to fall and the prussic will get very hot along with your hand. Oh and stopper knots are awesome glad I was paying attention to that post. I was only a couple feet off the ground. I definitely recommend practicing near the ground. That way you can figure out why little things like belts on sit drags and stopper knots are important.

I did a cheap little plastic buckle belt with 1 inch webbing, wish I got the cobra buckle and did it that way the first time, but since I was using a rock climbing harness, I just wanted to keep it up and out of the way, which my plastic buckle does just fine, if I ever decide to drop the rock climbing harness, I will upgrade the belt, but for now I think it works great.

I haven't added any molly loops or the pad that G2 has in his video, figure I can add those as I need them if I need them.

I started out with a cheap plastic buckle as well. I broke it after 3 or 4 uses. The cobra buckle is definitely the way to go.

The molle loops are very important for me. The pad and holder straps...not so much. If I was hunting in colder weather, I think it would be more important.

As far as comfort goes I'm completely satisfied in my sit drags. I use two on is my linesmans belt. My linesmans rooe is doubling as an adjustable bridge. the second sit drag I put on when I tether then I remove the linesmans rooe and run it through the same carabiner on my tether. And rehook. I haven't modified the one I use for back support other than sewing the loops and shortening the factory bridge that was way too long. The bridge going to my lower back gets in the way shooting a bow unless I lean forward and take the weight off of it then it falls down to the lower one and is out of the way. Not a problem since it falls about every time I lean forward and grab my bow. Since one bridge is adjustable I can put both of them under my rear should I decide to sit for a while. No need to add six inches to the middle of a sit drag just use two. Also if you see your belt inside the top edge of the sit drag through the two inch strap that's already there you can eliminate one of the weak points in the system by overlapping the butt splice in the strap that some people are leery of with your belting material. I thought about putting a loop of Amstel inside the loops on the sit drag and integrating them into my belt but at some point you have to determine how safe is safe enough. Trees fall in the woods every day.

Are you using a rock climbing harness or just the sd? What do you use the molle loops for, I clip all of my crap to my rc harness, put the sd above around my stomach until I get to hunting height.

I'm going without an RC harness. I feel pretty safe in my sitdrag.

I sewed loops into my sit drag for attaching pouches. If I wasn't so embarassed of my stitching for my belt I might take a picture of it for you guys...

I have hung upside down in my sit drag and had intentional falls without it wanting to move. The belt serves only the purpose of keeping the sit drag tight to your body so you can use it as a linesmans belt and to keep it from falling if you take the weight out of it adjusting your tether or standing on a platform. I personally would use a riggers belt sewn into the sit drag over a rock harness but only you can determine what it will take to keep you safe. If that means a rock harness for you by all means wear one.

I sewed loops as well. I don't use a rock climbing harness, but that is WAAAAAY outside of the manufacturers intended use.

I'll be an old lady and say IT IS A BAD IDEA TO NOT WEAR A HARNESS WITH A SITDRAG.

I have an ultralight harness that weighs a few ounces. Not a comfy hang but it will save your life. it is so easy to tag on to the same tether you sit drag is on or to simply add a personal anchor onto the tree and clip to that.

I have a thread about that somewhere....the secondary anchor to the harness actually adds another point of support to distribute the load and can be more comfortable. I also have a Linesman's belt that I have used as another way to distribute weight...make a nice back support.
