I simulated falls but it was before I sewed my belt on. It isn't fun. Swinging into the tree isn't fun. When you fall to the side your carabiner on your bridge will often slide all the way onto the loops of the sit drag. That leaves your side supported by just your bridge. It digs in a little but a quick thrust of the hips rotates the carabiner back onto the bridge and it's easy enough to push off the tree and right yourself. I just can't believe you guys aren't wearing helmets.

Haha, I was actually wearing a helmet to practice, but I didn't wear one today....because I forgot it, but I probably won't wear one when I hunt, hoping to be a little more comfortable by then.

I think that if I didn't have a harness on and only a belt I would fall in such a way(yes I have that kind of luck) that I would survive the fall only to get stuck in a way where I couldn't get up or down, and with only the belt, I don't think I would last as long and my ability to more to "self-rescue" would be limited.

But then again I haven't tried only the belt. What do you think EricS could you survive a fall like that where you couldn't get up or down or based on your "practice" do you think that wouldn't happen, and I'm being paranoid?

I would seriously just buy a new tribe if I needed a sit drag, harness, tree hopper linesman belt, 60' of rope and 16 carabiner to hunt. Especially if I thought my equipment was junk. IMHO

I don't keep much slack in my line and then only if adjusting tether or turning around on my platform. I've hung from the belt and did a small rappell with the belt. It wasn't very comfortable. When I was toying with the Idea of using the xop hand climber top as a means of climbing I bought enough rope to rappel 30 foot down either just climbing down or as an emergency way down in case the climber broke or fell. I tried several things. My linesmans rope is the same length as my tether so I can use it as one. So your platform fails and you can't reach your steps. Your tether is already tight. Use your linesmans to hook up as a second tether. Give it a foot or so of slack. Less if your original tether is set pretty high. Grab your prusik give it a yank and the other tether will tighten up. Move your top tether down just above your lower tether and take the weight off of the lower one. It doesn't take as long as you think to get down. You just need to make sure every time you move the lower one down you will be able to get the top one loose to move it down. You will need to have a way down riggers belt or rock harness. You really need to experiment and see what works for you. I'm pretty new to saddle hunting but the least safe I have ever felt was trying to get to 20 foot in a water oak using screw in steps and hang a chain on. If a rock harness would give you the confidence to go higher and really give your system a chance by all means wear one. Everyone probably should wear one but this thread is about comfort and I'm comfortable in mine like it is.

That's kind of how I look at it. If I have to add all of that other crap into my setup i'm just taking out my aerohunter anyway. My whole goal with trying the sitdrag is to minimize bulk! Of course I don't want to be gambling with my life each time I get into a tree with the thing but i'd like to think it's an awfully calculated risk i'm taking.

I bet less risk than driving to your hunting spot, work or home
