Yep, I think adding a spacer to get it at or above horizontal will help. I don’t like to give up so I’ll play with it and see.

I like the size of the bigger flat platform, but the smaller is certainly not uncomfortable so when I factor in the lack of flex and it’s noticeably lighter weight keeps it at the top of my favorites list.

Sheldon is this similar to the one you got?

I am considering that one but also intrigued by the one in this picture. It's a crapshoot to know how they are built till it arrives. Has anyone tried this model?

Oooops! Offer accepted at $27.50 shipped. Did I do that?

I like the shape of this and am hoping that the tabs in the rear can offer a good foundation for a cam over cleat of some kind. I will post an update when I get it and can take off the bottom cover to see how it is built.

Yes that is the one I ended up with...nice size, a little heavy and a bit o' flex as mentioned.
 
For those that are using carabiners to attach the strap to the seat, what carabiner are you using?

I used the steel carabiner from a Millennium Safe Link System that came with a M25 lock on stand. Any locking carabiner that has a wide enough opening to fit around the plate will work. After Saddlepalooza I switched to the cam over strap system. It saves weight, is quieter and easier to use than the carabiner attachment. The link is posted below.

I have one right now that is giving me fits . The mount was more suitable for the top step of a stick or other climbing device. Thats the direction I want to go I think on this one.
 
Is it critical to replace the bolt on the platform in the OP?

I found one on eBay $30 shipped to me. It has a bolt with plastic washers.

Somewhere in this thread I read something about replacing it with a high tensile bolt. I'm not super familiar with types of metal and all, is there concern that the original bolt would break?

I also read that the original bolt should be replaced somewhere in this thread. In my haste to get another platform in use I never replace the original bolt and through a season of use have not observed any signs of fatigue. My dressed hunting weight should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 240lbs and am comfortable with the provided bolt.

I have used 5/16 Grade 8 on everything I build using XOP/LW seat style platforms . The scooter platforms are made with grade 5 bolts . I know of no one who has broken one of those bolts . Those scooters are built with 500 lb limit in mind . I changed mine because there really is know way of knowing if those bolts were oem or some cheap imitation someone had laying around and put on. For the cost of a cup of coffee I`m putting a grade 8 bolt on it.
PS. You may never see any signs of fatigue so don`t count on any warning .
 
Just bought a foot plate platform on ebay. Should be here next week. How are you guys getringg the spacer into the middle of the aluminum 1 1/4" tubing where you mount the platform?

I used a square solid piece of aluminum on one post - that was easy. For my other 3 that I made I didn't use any spaces and haven't had any trouble. I'm 220-230#.
 
No spacers... Ok thanks. Maybe ill give it a test run and add a spacer later if i show any signs of stress at the connection points.
