SloMo`s DIY Saddle Hunting Platform

Neat, but given the ear location, probably wouldn't work as well. On the one I got I had to bias the post hole to the front.
Sending it back. Will have to keep an eye out for another. Luckily I have time now that the season is done on the 31st.

Ok, so I've had some custom straps made that should work ideal with these scooter platforms and other DIY platforms. I've built 2 platforms so far and finishing up another one for my daughter to use with me this weekend. I built them with a strap connected directly to the platform and cam it over. On the one side I use a Lone Wolf strap girth hitched. On the other side I used a 6" dyneema runner girth hitched and then a carabiner to connect back to the Lone Wolf strap (eliminates metal on metal). My new strap is 12" and girth hitches to the platform and then connects back to the cam buckle on the Lone Wolf or XOP style strap. This eliminates bulk, weight, and $$$. Instead of buying a dyneema runner and carabiner, just this 12" strap is needed. The hook is vinyl coated. If there's interest I'll stock them on my website - I ordered a small quantity just to test and use on my platforms. If you want one I have a few extras I'd sell for $10 each TYD. I can also put them on my website and can ship them with any orders of my DoubleSteps. Additionally, I can sell the full strap that is basically the same as Lone Wolf/XOP except it attaches/detaches at the cam buckle with this vinyl hook. They would run about $14 on my store. Let me know if there's any interest.

Now available, full strap system. Eliminates the need to purchase LW/XOP strap and additional components. Only small quantity to test the market:

Good price Dan. Now a ocb and short strap might be better than cam over.
I have the components and can make that available if that is what you want. However, I found that the cam buckle works best with the cam over platform. This allows you to slowly release the cam buckle until you get the sweet spot and then finish camming the platform down. It doesn't budge so I don't see the need for the quick release OCB buckle for this application. Totally different story for ROS though and that's where the OCB shines.

Was struggling with scooter platform, after reading your earlier post on using the hook cam buckle method I threw one together with some parts laying around. Works great! Also made a versastrap and put a diy versabutton on it to hold everything in place while setting the platform. Probably could have made the versastrap from para cord since it is not load bearing once the platform is set. Gonna put you on follow to keep up with the great ideas and solutions! Definitely a wealth of innovation and knowledge. Thanks much!

I had no idea that saddle hunting would deplete the market of a foot rest for mobility scooters but apparently that's just what has happened . I build mine for personal use. Shoprider footrest`s are two and three times what they were originally. Thats is if you can find one of the OG style. I tried posting a video of the Alien Platform and u tube kept rejecting it. In it I use one of the alternative styles. The platform was all sand cast aluminum but the mounting bracket was different. A bit heavier and stronger than earlier brackets , The set back from the tree is much greater with this bracket. It enables guys with big boots on to use the entire platform including the back side closest to the tree. Hopefully this will be better understood after I figure out why my vid is being blocked. We need to find an alternative source that does not know what we are using these for. Eyes peeled everyone.s-l1600.jpgIMG_8776.JPGIMG_8776.JPG

I've been working with the manufacturer and they require an MOQ of 25+ to get wholesale pricing. I wouldn't be able to purchase these myself and would need to do pre-orders if there was interest. I'd be able to sell the complete platform for about $125 (platform, post, plastic caps, two brackets, and strap).

I actually like how the original platform sits so close to the tree and wouldn't want it farther away. Do guys tend to stand directly on the platform? I don't.

I thought I did too. Check this out and let me know what you think?
How do you attach to the tree, just a strap on the button? How does it handle side loading? That's what I need to see because I know how mine works (your first gen version), and it locks in amazingly well. Do you have the model number / manufacturer of this platform? Also, did you have to modify the mount or does it come with ability to bolt to 1 1/4" post?

All great questions I`ll be happy to help out with. I`ll get a much more detailed build list for you DanO. This one was the easiest by the way . I know I used the billet post because of the offset in the mounting of the bracket. It appeared so strong I wanted to use it somehow and my solution was to go with billet instead of hollow channel or tube. I`m home this weekend so I`ll get more detailed info to anyone interested ok.

$125 seems reasonable. I'd be interested but won't have finances until spring. Debating this route or the predator. I really like my WE steps but wondering if I'm missing out on something good.

Looks heavy. Can you do some weight comparisons?

This is the one I was looking at as alternative. If you bolted a block on the back of the stick you could drill a hole in this platform and thread it and the bolt would use the block thats bolted on as its stopper for angling. Maybe the block wouldnt be needed as you might be able to use the tree bracket as your stop. Id also drill this platform out for weight reduction.

Its tough to beat the xop. Perfect size and no edges. I wonder if the latest platform you built will give pressure points like a step given the high edges? If you cant get heels on the platform, its a calf cramp at 3am unexpectedly. lol

No I have not had trouble with cramps although I do have RLS. My ankles hurt a bit on off days. I think its because I`m a big leaner and almost never stand completely on the platform . As for the build.. I probably should have it done next week sometime. I will try to include as much as I can in the way of weight, height, width, etc. and materials used. I `m still actively seeking other alternative foot rests to use so bear with me. As far as the XOP its stable enough and has lots of room. It also finishes up nicely if you need that. I think just about all of the popular wheelchairs have parts support. I just don`t want to alert anyone else these are so popular. Shhhhhhhhhhhh

FYI . I would like to build a few more for the MA get together . I`m really excited about networking with everyone.

I finished up a LW seat platform yesterday. I`ll try to post up pics tonight. This seat or the one pictured does have some issues with mounting but I`ll figure that out. I just wanted to get this one done because it seems these are still reasonable to buy. Its 4.0 lbs 4 oz and cost me 39.00 dollars with free shipping.. It has a thin rubber mat kinda thing that's pressed into the stand. I think I`m going to leave it alone and just build it the way it is. No drilling to lighten. I'll leave the mat intact. Figure out the bracket/mounting. Paint and testing. These type platforms are great for leaners and combo leaner/ sitter. But as you said because it's a little smaller than say an xop as its just not as good as a wider platform . For the record I have no plans at this time to sell any of these. I have fun making them and intend to sell all my hang ons . This type of platform will fit just about anywhere and excels in tight quarters . I`m all in bro.

$39 - must have been from classifieds or eBay? Retail price is still $69 for the Seat kit - is that what you used?

i want to make mine like a Klemz or predator I'm thinking of making some teeth for it and mounting it to the bottom of the stick
Can some share the link where to get plaform part from I'm having a hard time finding it in
