SloMo`s DIY Saddle Hunting Platform

Looking great! I chose to not use a carabiner to connect mine due to potential metal on metal noise. As I move around on my platform I don't have to worry about kicking it. Used a small dyneema runner girth hitched to the platform but you could also use an amsteel continuous loop.
Thanks! I might try one of those ideas! I plan on trying with the carabiner first after it’s wrapped in stealth strips or hockey tape. Already added a bicycle tube to the buckle to quiet it.

How did you make those tree brackets?

I used 1 1/2 inch aluminum angle. Watched slomo’s video on YouTube and screen shot what he did to mimic it. I haven’t tried it yet other than camming onto the light pole yesterday and stand on it. They bit into the pole well and didn’t bend. I don’t think most trees are as hard as electric poles so I’m happy with it. These are the screenshots I took from the video and used. Ideally I would like xop brackets but they are out of stock.

Thanks.

Just letting anyone know that interested there is a scooter platform on eBay currently. Only 1 available. It’s $20 plus $10 shipping.

Before you buy pre made cleats try yours on a tree. They work much better on side bite if you use a strap about an inch above the versa button. That keeps the top cleat tight and allows the bottom cleat to bite better. Your cleats look great.

So these seem rare as hens teeth. Has anyone tried one of the many other models online? Some look great until I zoom in and see they are 2 piece(upper and lower clamshell bolted together). The big cast ears for mounting are hollow and the steel under piece is the real mounting portion. I dont want to mess with all that as it would likely be noisy and heavier. Just looking for an alternative option to this model if one exists.

Keep checking ebay. I bought one of those platforms last week for $20. Shortly after, another one was for sale. I am guessing someone else on here bought that one too. There will probably be another one listed soon.

I thought about some of the other platforms but I am glad I waited.

I have made both as DIY projects . My original scooter platform and an XOP build after that . I like both and each has its own pro/con list . I like most and use mostly my original scooter platform . I prefer the slightly smaller but much stiffer feeling . I`m a leaner and spend lot of time on the edges of my platform. My XOP`s tend to have sharper edges and hurt my old feet sooner than the other. I have not tried the predator . Please note I use ratchet straps on all my platforms as a personal choice.

I built a scooter platform in September and it has been the only platform I have used all season. My platform is on 11ga steel tubing with XOP stand offs. It’s heavy but very stable. I’ve been using the platform as a cam and an API adjustable strap with a carabiner on one side. It’s very comfortable and secure. I only hunt private land and don’t have long walks, unless that changes I will continue to use the scooter platform.

I picked up another style foot plate . My hope is it will be pretty much the same as my original scooter platform when I`m done. .Ken 1320, Keep watching Ebay. I got this one for 30 plud shipping

I saw that platform and thought it may be good too. Glad you bought it and I am looking forward to seeing how it works.

Picked up a different footrest on ebay as the shoprider was gone and I am an impatient turd, this one is for the Pride Jazzy nice big platform but be advised it is steel and weighs in at 4.6# on it's own.

Ok, so I've had some custom straps made that should work ideal with these scooter platforms and other DIY platforms. I've built 2 platforms so far and finishing up another one for my daughter to use with me this weekend. I built them with a strap connected directly to the platform and cam it over. On the one side I use a Lone Wolf strap girth hitched. On the other side I used a 6" dyneema runner girth hitched and then a carabiner to connect back to the Lone Wolf strap (eliminates metal on metal). My new strap is 12" and girth hitches to the platform and then connects back to the cam buckle on the Lone Wolf or XOP style strap. This eliminates bulk, weight, and $$$. Instead of buying a dyneema runner and carabiner, just this 12" strap is needed. The hook is vinyl coated. If there's interest I'll stock them on my website - I ordered a small quantity just to test and use on my platforms. If you want one I have a few extras I'd sell for $10 each TYD. I can also put them on my website and can ship them with any orders of my DoubleSteps. Additionally, I can sell the full strap that is basically the same as Lone Wolf/XOP except it attaches/detaches at the cam buckle with this vinyl hook. They would run about $14 on my store. Let me know if there's any interest.
