Talk me out of a diesel or help me pick!

Cant believe a 6.4 hemi hasn't been mentioned! Aftrr having multiple HD diesels and all the troubles associated with all of them I bought a 2015 2500 Ram a few years ago with the 6.4 Hemi. As for its towing ability, we have a 40ft 5th wheel that loaded scales a touch over 15,000 pounds thats been towed from southern MO all over the west coast and pacific northwest. Now as far as a power goes its no modern diesel but it will definitely hold its own against any used stock diesel from the early-mid 2000's. Now...what I dont like is the 3.73 rear end....what was Ram thinking putting such a high gear ratio in HD pickup!! Next ties into the gear ratio but the jump from first to second is HUGE!! Climbing ability out west is trouble free IMO on Interstate grades of 7% or less. One of the few places we had trouble was at Rushmore on th 10% getting in. Again the rear end ratio was the culprit. Overall the wind out west will be your biggest adversary, both power and fuel with gasser.
In summary, I wouldnt trade back to diesel for my pulling needs. Too much expense and headaches. Matter of fact the new gas 7.3 Ford dually is on my radar as we speak!

@DanO, what did you end up with?
After narrowing it down to a gas Titan XD or Ford F250, I drove them both and started looking at used trucks in the $20,000 range. Really like the room of the F250 and towing capabilities so decided on that. Hard to find something without a ton of miles or rust at that price range, so I bit the bullet and found a good deal on a 2019 F250. Was waiting until I got some type of logo on the side before posting a follow-up, need to get something on it soon!

That’s a healthy write off brother , love it!!!!

X2
Almost bought the 250 but don’t pull enough to need it........
I pulled a trailer thousands of miles this year even over the Rockies... 6000 pounds. I really don't need an F250 I never was short of power with the F150... If I was pulling 10, 000 pounds I would go with the F250.

I wish I did not have such a heavy camper and drive in the mountains on every trip. I have a Ram 2500 Cummins that I love but the price of diesel and oil changes is ridiculous. My camper is around 10,000 pounds and I personally would not even consider pulling it with a 1/2 ton truck. Remember it is not the motor you worry about, it is being able to stop

Totally agree. I had a Ram 1500 and now have a 2019 Ford F 150 and never pull much more than 6000 pounds. That said on steep grades in the Rockies with 6000 pounds I hardly touched my brakes. In tow haul mode the Ford F 150 which I now have geared down the ten speed transmission so the brakes were hardly touched.

I have a lot of confidence in the stopping ability of the F 150. In my older Chevy pickup pulling through the mountains or maybe my Ram the brakes would have been smoking hot.

Purchase what ever you want or need as long as you can afford it. Just don't fool yourself into thinking you can afford something you can't! That said, can't go wrong with the Cummings.

So any suggestions on a place that can do vehicle graphics and tailgate wraps in Michigan?

Let me ask around. There used to be a place near AA that did really awesome vinyl wraps.
