Cant believe a 6.4 hemi hasn't been mentioned! Aftrr having multiple HD diesels and all the troubles associated with all of them I bought a 2015 2500 Ram a few years ago with the 6.4 Hemi. As for its towing ability, we have a 40ft 5th wheel that loaded scales a touch over 15,000 pounds thats been towed from southern MO all over the west coast and pacific northwest. Now as far as a power goes its no modern diesel but it will definitely hold its own against any used stock diesel from the early-mid 2000's. Now...what I dont like is the 3.73 rear end....what was Ram thinking putting such a high gear ratio in HD pickup!! Next ties into the gear ratio but the jump from first to second is HUGE!! Climbing ability out west is trouble free IMO on Interstate grades of 7% or less. One of the few places we had trouble was at Rushmore on th 10% getting in. Again the rear end ratio was the culprit. Overall the wind out west will be your biggest adversary, both power and fuel with gasser.
In summary, I wouldnt trade back to diesel for my pulling needs. Too much expense and headaches. Matter of fact the new gas 7.3 Ford dually is on my radar as we speak!
