Team 10 Thread

Got out to some public tonight and went to a spot one of my hunting buddies wanted to go to. He instantly went in, found some rubs and climbed a tree. I tried to tell him that I have not had any luck seeing deer over rubs, but he was set on it. I on the other hand was looking for scrapes. I hiked 5 miles from 3 pm to 5 pm without finding a single scrape or any real good deer sign. I kept fighting the urge to just go ahead and climb a tree since it was getting close to magic hour, but I always try not to set up unless I am super confident I will see a deer there. For the second time this season I walked all night and didn't climb a tree. I did finally stumble on where in the heck the deer were in this area. Saw 4 does and 2 bucks, one of which was a slob! It was already a minute after shooting light was up and I swore that one of the neighboring properties must have lost one of their cows. I walked out toward this giant animal and finally saw it bound off. Not a cow, just the largest bodies deer I've ever encountered. Couldn't make out size of rack, but I can get excited about body size too! Good luck to all hunting this weekend.

also found a dead head and saw an awesome rainbow. @Weldabeast has inspired me to add more pics.

Got a small army out for opening rifle weekend. 5 of them are on lease using guns and I’m out in Nat Forest with bow. Should be a fun weekend with lower temps than we’ve been having.

Good luck man! Let us know what you’re seeing. No hunting for me this weekend.

Got up in a tree bout 5yards off an old logging road. At 9:15 saw some branches moving 50yards from logging road behind me. Ended up being a nice 8-point. Snort wheezed at him a few times and got him to stop. Thinking the wind swirled cause he trotted off. Didn’t blow though so that’s good. I’ll be back in there closer to the line he was walking. Maybe in the morning or wait til next weekend. We’ll see what wind does tomorrow. Back in a different spot now on a creek bottom.

I dropped the ball on the St Vincent whitetail hunt this week. Scouted Wednesday. Found a few spots. Wednesday night, a cold front came through. Wind went from sustained 10mph to 25 mph with gusts over 30. Lots of heavy rain. Didn’t see anything Thursday morning. Thursday night 30 minutes before sundown an ok sized 4 pt showed up 40 yards from me. He gave me a side shot but was right on a transition of small live oaks and palmettos. I chanced it and took a very hard shot on the back side of the tree in 30 mph winds. My arrow floated a little and hit a small branch in front of the deer. Long story short I missed. It rained a majority of the trip and with the wind blowing so hard, I was unsuccessful. Even worst my buddy came with me and he missed a 6pt at 15 yards the same night. :tired: When we left Saturday evening only one doe was shot out of 48 hunters on a 12,000 acre island. Definitely a tough hunt

I missed a decent 8 yesterday. I dont really know how but I shot right under him at 12yds. I did think just before the release not to shoot over him because I rarely practice at that distance. No excuse, just flat missed.

More interesting story happened today. After the morning hunt a couple of buddies were in camp for coffee. Its raining outside and the generators running and we look out the window as a doe walks by in the field about 60yds out. Shes followed by a single spiked buck (unicorn)about 5 minutes later. About 5 minutes after that a beautiful 140in 8 pt walks by. We're all excited when we look up and the doe is walking right thru camp 15 yds outside the camper. Sure enough that 8 pt followed her right by about 3 minutes later. You just cant make this stuff up. Sit in a tree in the rain for 4 hours to only see a spike and a doe and then sit in the camper having coffee and have shooter walk by inside 20 yds at 1:00 in the afternoon.

Sorry guys I've been trying to get my house ready for the market so only been in the woods one time. I'm officially off until the 15th so hoping to spend majority of the time in the woods. Great job on successful hunts. Hope to add to the score real soon.
