Team 10

I mean I wouldn't let him know but I'd be pissed. I work my butt off trying to figure out where the deer are and how they're moving, private and public. Scout, hang cams, pay attention to the wind. My dad never did any of that growing up, and didn't pay attention to the wind at all until a year or two ago. He does now but I don't think it factors much in where he hunts. Just a week or two ago he told me he was gonna hunt one morning and then pull a bunch of stands down. I was like "*** are you doing man that's what the offseason is for?!" lol. That was on a tiny little piece of private we have to hunt where the hunt alone is intrusion enough to make it need a week long rest, let alone walking through the entire woods getting down old stands. Luckily I talked him out of it and that's where I killed my buck this past weekend.

It all depends on your spots though, what the deer are used to, and if you have other spots to go to. Trust your gut. If you think he ruined it, sounds like a good chance to go explore a new area.
Yeah I told him if he is gunna walk back there and screw things up to at least hunt it, but he can't sit for more than an hour because "I can't just sit around and not be productive".....

I'm gunna let that spot cool down till next weekend. I have a 3 day weekend next weekend so I'll give it a go then, just gotta get him to stay out of there. What takes me a 2 mile hike from the public access, he can get to it from private access in 500 yards, but it's a terrible access route so I never take it. But he walks all over and kicks the deer up so he can see what is back there and then gripes about how "there are no big bucks! Things aren't as good as they should be down there"..... Sorry for the rant. I shouldn't let it get to me....

Maaan I completely get it. No worries. Hopefully you find some good stuff on option number 2

Made it out tonight. Went to the private farm. Little bit of a NE. Wind. Kinda swirly. Hope the scentlok helps tonight. Saw some big tracks on the road near by. Hunting the trail that always has tracks on it. Hopefully there moving tonight. Couple miles away there running beans.

Saw a buck. 1.5yr old. I was glassing some of the far off areas, and he popped out right next to me. Always seems to happen That way. There was a bunch of deer in the feild back by the farm house when I was leaving. Need a better wind to get in there .

I had a good weekend. Went a mile back on some public and saw 10 deer Saturday morning. Saw 3 fork bucks. Checked my trail cam that's 100 yards from the house and got 2 nice bucks working a scrape. Hoping the rut starts up here soon and gets these bucks moving in daylight.Screenshot_20201025-213706.pngScreenshot_20201025-213714.png

Went out this morning, been really hot for here the past few weeks. Finally getting some cooler weather this week. Had 2 smalls does feed around me for about an hour at sun up. Passed on a 30 yard shot and then 20 yard shot 20 minutes after. Hopefully some of the big boys that pass through here will be following them in the next few weeks!

I took my 3 year old out Sunday to where I killed my buck for his first "hunt". Brought his toy bow and kid binos. I really just wanted to check my cams to see if anything else good was going on there but he's been begging to hunt with me so this worked perfect. We just crept around slow from cam to cam and I showed him where I killed my deer. In there looking for my broadhead and a spike comes to 15 yards lol. He said it was "too little" to shoot with his toy bow haha. After than he was guns a blazing acting like there were deer everywhere firing off arrows at pretend deer. Said he shot a 55 pointer! Definitely a day for the memory bank.

Couple other ok bucks there but nothing insane. I doubt I'll hunt there much the rest of the year. Just today I got some great intel on the new public land I've been picking over. Guy I'm slightly acquainted with killed a 160 there in 2012 and has seen a bunch of 130-40 class deer. 130 would be my best ever so I'll be mainly focusing there whenever I get out the rest of the season. I'll be taking a few days off during the rut and would still like to get a deer or two down but the pressure is off after getting one down now and 80# of meat in the freezer.

We're to the fun part, guys. Good luck and enjoy it!

Well I struck out on my western trip but we did see plenty of deer. I came back home and after doing some online scouting decided to hunt a small public piece with a few trees and pond surrounded by tall grass. I set up on a big rub/scrape line near the pond littered with tracks and scat.
This guy came in near dusk/dark and he's not huge but he had attitude. He's a scrapper and he came in thrashing shrubs and bushes huffing and puffing. He walked 5 yds from my saddle set up when I shot and he ran 25 yds and laid down.
After a 30 min wait, I walked over to take a look and noticed dried blood on his broken right side and assumed it's been in another deer's throat, eye, side, etc. (The blood in the pic on his antler is from me handling him there's more old dried blood near his bases and other antler.)
No more points for the team from me since this is my second buck for the season and I'm tagged out on bucks. He will be getting donated to Hunters Helping the Hungry (a program in my state to help families in need of meat). Good luck guys and I look forward to reading more about your successes!

*LONG POST*
Had a 3 day weekend friday-sunday. Friday morning was slow, 2 mph wind out of the south. Not a good wind for where I was but I thought with rising thermals and me being 25ft up I could take the risk.

9am I saw my first deer, a roughly 120" 8 point. He was coming from the north headed south with the wind in his face. Not dogging a doe, just passing through. I got all ready as he was nearing my shooting lane, I was about to have a 17 yard broadside shot at a nice buck. At 30 yards he stops on a dime, puts his nose up, and I know that it's game over. He must have hit my scent cone just then. He took a few steps backwards, then turned around, skirted around me without any shot opportunities and went south. Even though I got had, it was cool to see a nice buck and to get a glimpse at just how good they are at surviving.

I'd had some does and fawns move through. Could have shot, but I'm way back on some public so I'm only taking a good buck outta here. 2pm rolls around and a doe comes running through, takes the trail ,17 yards broadside and I'm thinking "here we go". This is gunna be some early rut action. She's looking back and keeps running. I'm at the ready, when into the intersection comes a wolf! I've never seen a wolf chasing a deer in the wild like that it was definitely a cool experience. He sniffed the ground and looked the way of the doe. Put his nose to the air (he was at the same spot as the buck) and knew something was up. He gave up pursuit of the doe and skirted me to the east, then headed south. I can't say I wasn't going to do something I shouldn't have, but the way he ran I couldn't get my bow around in time so he got off clean and free....

Saturday was much less productive. 20mph winds and the deer just weren't moving. In the evening I sat on the ground on the field edge, 11 yards off a heavy trail where the deer where headed out. Every year I like to do a few hunts on the ground and with the heavy winds I thought heck why not. I was tucked in some brush good, and when the deer entered the field it was going to have to be a quick shot. The first deer that showed up was a nubbin buck. Wasn't going to shoot that, and he ended up seeing me. Got within 7 yards then ran back to the woods. He blew in there once but it wasn't much so I stuck it out. 5 minutes later a big doe is making her way. She's about to cross the ditch and hop up on the field, when she turns and walk parallel to the ditch, coming right for me. She got 10 feet away when she finally noticed me. She bounded once and stomped a couple times. Then she blew hard. She was so close (6 yards) that I could see all that snot come off her nose! Then she went back in the woods and blew a bunch. So I packed it up figured the hunt was over, and went to eat dinner with the family.

Sunday was 25 degrees with 20 mph winds. I didn't end up going out at all and instead did a little scouting, then spent the rest of the day with the wife and kid.

So my 3 day weekend didn't produce any points for the team, but I got some good intel and some awesome encounters that I'll never forget. In my eyes, that's a good weekend of bow hunting.
