Team 13 Thread

I've got one more weekend with the bow and then our rifle season opens. Was going to carry the recurve during rifle but, my boys have been slacking this year and I still need two more deer in the freezer, plus I saw Team 2 made a run on us last week so I think I'll carry the gun.

Put a new Vortex on the .308 this year and got it dialed in at the range yesterday. I probably won't hunt till the last week of our Pennsylvania rifle season. However, I'll have 3.5 days up at our camp in Potter County, PA. We usually put the smack down on 6-8 doe while we are up there. I should be good for another 5 points. Plan to scout most of the day and get set up in the saddle for an evening sit each day. I like to walk and learn new areas up there each year. Its been very productive and a lot of fun. Till then I am enjoying the down time. I hunted hard this year and was getting tired to be honest. It'll be nice to have a 3 week rest period.

I like to win and seeing Team 13 in 2nd place is making me consider going out the first day of rifle now. I would take my bow and hunt the archery only areas where I hunt as the rifle guys push a lot of deer into those low/thick areas. I won't be able to get out today or tomorrow which is the last day of our archery season. Good luck if you are out today and tomorrow! Shoot straight for Team 13!!

Up until 10 February I believe. January is when things heat up here.

Got 5 on the board.

February 10th! Wow. Our late season starts day after Christmas and ends January 17th. I do like that time of year though because its all focused on food and if I find food/feeding I sit right in the middle of it. Been successful doing that the last few years for a final doe.

You still have PLENTY of time

Just clarifying since this is my first year in the contest… I already have a buck, so all I can contribute yet is one doe? Correct?

Hoping to get that taken care of during PA rifle season next Saturday!

You can submit another buck but it will only count as a doe (or 5 points). There is also no limit to the number of times you can upgrade your buck.

Not sure I like that rule since PA is a one buck state. I wonder how many other states are a one buck state like Pennsylvania?

There are several one buck States. MD allows us two but only one with archery. Most the time one buck States have better bucks anyway and there's always other states.

Plus, You don't want my little spike Sika counting do you? . :) I'll upgrade it with a whitetail before the years over.

Good point hahahaha. (No offense)

Had another encounter with an 8 point this morning. He was 25 yds and 2 steps from clearing the brush so I could shoot when he smelled something he didn't like and went the other way. Currently have a spike bedded at 35 yds from me. If he decides to come my way when he gets up I might just have to take out this year's frustrations on him.

So....tried to take out my seasons frustrations on that little spike and shot right over his back.

Oh well, I've got one more hunt Friday morning with the Trad bow and then I'm killing crap with the rifle.

I’m not done with em yet. Damn near killed a nice buck last night but by the time I decided it was indeed a nice buck my opportunity was over. My next hunt may just have to kill the first good doe I see to get another 5.

I haven't seen much movement like I did 2 weeks ago. Even driving around I don't see deer movement till the evenings. There for 3-4 days it didn't matter what time of day it was I saw deer running in fields while out driving around. I am packing for our camp trip December 7th-11th however I might unpack and take the bow out this Saturday for the opening of rifle season. The National Guard base I hunt you have to pay an additional $20 to rifle hunt and its a mad house. I like to slip into those archery only areas because those guys typically push all the deer into those small thickets.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I wish you and your families a great holiday season!

Its always a blast giving the rifle a walk, but I rarely have success during PA rifle, I have much more success in archery. Lots of family tradition though, and I wouldn't trade that for the world! I'll be in Mifflin County hunting Tuscarora State Forest - my grandpa started hunting there at 18 years old. 60 years later and my dad, uncles, cousins, and all my brothers are still at it! My grandpa is still at it as well.

I grew up in Mifflin County, my parents and brother still live there. Good luck to all you guys!
