Team 2 BB - Bambi Blasters

I attempted a quick hunt tonight. It warmed up after the cold/ snow today and is supposed to be that way to close the season over the weekend. Things tons of people out, I was surprised but shouldn't have been. Didn't end up sitting. Hoping to put one or two serious hunts in yet

Good luck @GreginPA , careful with you foot too!

Tried a quick sit this afternoon. Nada. Season is almost gone. Planning on giving it a go in the morning, fingers crossed!

@MattMan81 , can you confirm or deny the legality of hunting 1-1-23? I've long heard it's ok for deer hunting but the digest doesn't list times... not so concerned with the clock as I am good to hunt or not

My interpretation has always been the 1st is still a hunting day. If you compare dates, archery goes 10-1 thru 11-14. You can hunt the 14th. Season than says 12-1 thru 1-1. Screenshot_20221230-202918.png

Well I'm done. I tried this morning but no luck. Probably not going to find a burst of will power to go out this evening, I got thoroughly wet and cold this morning.

Can't complain about my first season!

Good luck if you're still at it!

Strong work @Horn I should still be able to get out a few times, archery runs through the end of January for me here in MD and I am hoping to out another deer in the freezer. We shall see.

Your not done if you want to drive across the state. If the weather is okay, I might go check out one of those public areas.Screenshot_20230101-224600~2.png

I think the two big ones are the proud and Pontiac areas. I think there is a few other smaller pieces.
A guy at work hunts the Proud. He says it gets a lot of pressure in November. But there is deer out there.

Looks like on mi-hunt there are a few state parks open to hunting on the same area too

@Horn I'm going to need some gardening advice from ya, I tried last year but spent lots of $ to grow not much lol. Raised beds are in and a sunk cost at this point so need to try again. Likely need to spend some off season building squirrel cages to protect the beds, they ate almost everything that did grow.

Got about 5 more hunts before season ends. It's been a tough year. Seeing plenty of deer just not the right ones. It's humbling to say the least. I work really hard running cams and trying to patterns these bucks. But for some reason this year they have my number and I haven't been able to get it done....YET!!!

Squirrels are getting you? I have rabbit and deer problems. All 3 taste pretty good :tearsofjoy:

But really feel free to ask away. I'm not sure I'm best gardener out there but I do ok. I can only think of corn and sweet potatoes that were complete flops - critters ate them right down before they ever got going. I'm struggling to get blueberries and grapes going, again mostly critters eating them. But I think I've been able to harvest everything else I've tried!

It could be nocturnal deer/rabbits as well, I only see squirrels during the day. I live in town so I'm not allowed to shoot/trap at my house (not positive about nuisance trapping but I don't want to mess with live traps/don't think I'd put a dent in the squirrel population that way, so building some cages is the best solution I've been able to come up with. I'd love to figure out aquaponics and have an indoor fish/veggie garden but that's a whole different level of space/time/money, so the dirt it is for at least another year.

I had great success with watermelons for some reason, got tired of them lol. Strawberries did ok until the squirrels discovered them, and out of the rest of the 25 ish things I planted, pretty much everything either dried up because I didn't start the seeds early enough or got decimated by critters.

Do you start seeds and all that or buy starts from the store? I think I bit off more than I could chew building the garden and trying to start like 30 things from seed my first year.

I start almost all my stuff from seed, I like to grow the odd ball stuff. I've started saving seeds too, because I gotta go all the way down rabbit holes, lol. I have definitely had to go buy replacement plants too, nothing wrong with starters. Actually if you're starting seeds indoors that adds quite a bit of work and equipment to the equation.

Don't get discouraged, it's a learning process. Critter control is a big issue. I'm fortunate that anything that's not a deer no one in my area will care if or how I deal with them.

@thedutchtouch , I found a couple pictures. I think there's about 440 seedlings in that first picture ( veg, flowers, herbs).

Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate and I gotta bring them back in....

And Lady Horn wanted to share me weeding lol. She's awful patient with my shenanigans.

The trellis in that last picture worked pretty good but I spent a few bucks on that idea... if you've got any extra cash after hunting gardening can be an excellent way to ease that burden ;)
