Team 2 BB - Bambi Blasters

Well @thedutchtouch you didn't have any luck? I didn't today, back at it tomorrow! I did get pictures of a momma and a yearling ( or two) while I was at a dance recital... it was pretty quick and painless but hanging in the snow sounded better

How much season is left for everyone? MI is done on new years so we're getting close. I don't need the meat per se but I'd take two more if I could, friends and family would appreciate it.
 
Ankle has been a pain. I over will have from next Friday to the 2nd with Christmas and birthdays and all in between hoping for three days of hunting at least
 
Nope nothing. I spooked a coyote with about 30 min of light left, but no deer. Just about every other animal I can think of, fox, turkey, etc... but no deer.

Hope you get one tomorrow @Horn !

I'm not sure when I'll get out next, hopefully at least once between Christmas and new years, and then I still have all of january

I should be in a tree now... but I gotta keep the peace at home better clear the driveway off first. And make some chili to throw in the crock pot.

Got out this afternoon for a few hours. Shot a doe. She carried the arrow about 20 yards. Very little to no blood hitting the ground. Mother nature decided snow was needed shortly after. Did a little looking with my son this evening and found a little blood. Definitely not the amount I was hoping to find.

My initial reaction to the shot was that I was good front to back, but way too high. Not sure if I moved or she did. Either way, I've got a walk planned for tomorrow to look around in the daylight. Fingers crossed I find more than my son and I did this evening.

Well I'm still at it. Other than killing one of the 3 target bucks, my last 3 hunts have been epic!!! I've had anywhere from 13 to 15 deer in shooting range with a longbow each time. Several young bucks and my number 4 and 5 buck in range too. They will be studs next year. Had my number 2 buck in a field I was at. He never got closer that 40 yds......again for the 3rd time now he has skirted me. My number 1 buck has disappeared again. Not seen since Dec. 2nd. I'm going to keep grinding. Hopefully I'll get lucky soon.

This whole idea of having target bucks instead of just trying to find deer on the hoof thing is impressive. How many seasons/how big is the property you hunt?
 
Snows moving in for the weekend. Was gonna try to get out one more time. But they are calling for lots of snow and wind Friday. Then going to see the in laws after Christmas. Not sure how much hunting I'm gonna get in.

Well my FIL has close to 300 acres. I've been hunting it 20yrs or so. I'm not saying this is how it should be done.....Shoot what makes you happy. And for me shooting mature bucks makes me happy. I've killed a bunch of deer and normally kill a couple of does ever year for meat. If I'm going to shoot a buck you better believe its going to be a mature one. I like the challenge of scouting all year long, patterning these bucks, and picking out a couple that I want to shoot. Then having the discipline to hold off shooting just any buck makes it fun and challenging for me. Nothing wrong with shooting what makes you happy....the trophy is all in the eyes of the beholder.

Also my dad and kids hunt it along with a couple of my buddies. There is no restriction on what deer they shoot either. It's what ever makes them happy. But I do tell them that you will never kill a big Buck if you don't let the little ones walk......LOL

Sorry for the delay. Unfortunately no news means I confirmed what I was afraid of. My gut reaction of a hit that was way too high seems to have been correct. I didn't find any new blood. I walked a pretty big area and found a ton of overnight beds. Not a single one with blood. I'm bummed, but I've made that shot once before and seen the deer carry on. My buddy is running a camera out there so hopefully we'll get a picture of her.

My guess is even though she went back to feeding she was on high enough alert to drop when she heard my bow. I was shocked I even managed to get a shot. She knew something was there.

I'll be back out after this cold snap passes. Stay warm all!

I'll second Merry Christmas team, and good luck out there! Frigid weather, stay safe if y'all get out! I'm hoping to tomorrow but it's an awful long shot. I'll get 1 more hunt in at least..
 
Merry Christmas. I tried today. Seen two does but antlers only. -2 when I left the truck for my 2 mile hike.
