Congratulations to you and your wife. It's grea to hear everyone is good. Abigail's a cutie. I just became a new grandfather in the last month when my daughter gave birth to a baby girl so this is hitting close to home for me. Best wishes on your new adventures.

Congratulations @BCHunter! A little late to the party for me here.. was giving forums a back burner as life has been busy. Been a slow season here in PA.. things are looking up though had two nice buck at 70-80 yards and six doe, late this morning. Hoping I can connect to get on the score board!

Been slow here in the Deep South, but we still have tons of time before our late rut kicks in. Made a few hunts in Alabama on the family farm. Had plenty of deer in bow range, but just couldn't get it done. Spooked three different groups of deer one evening. :(

Heading out this evening in Louisiana. Haven't touched the public land here since October. Not sure what acorn trees and what bedding areas will be hot right now. I have three options.

1) Observation hunt on a bedding area. If I spot some action, I can move in on it tomorrow, but the temps are rising through the weekend.

2) Get aggressive with said bedding area, assuming general direction of travel will be towards open hardwoods.

3) Scout my way in through a finger of hardwoods towards a bedding area and set up on hot sign. With this option, there's a chance I won't find any hot sign (haven't been in this spot since February) and will just have to settle for setting up down wind of the bedding area and hoping for the best.

Any one care to offer advice?

Depends on how many days you are going to hunt. If there for several days I would observe the first evening. If only one evening hunt I would get aggressive.

I'm back out again this weekend. Took my middle son out for ML last week and he missed a 4 point but connected on a doe. This weekend my 16 year old will hunt solo for the first time for the rifle opener, and I'll get to hunt too! Woo hoo - usually November I'm rarely hunting myself, and getting them out. I have a spot picked out that can be hunted just sitting on the ground, but I'll set up the predator and saddle about 3 feet high in the event I can tack on some upgrade points

Game on, good luck!

I’m headed out for mule deer the week after thanksgiving, can’t wait! I’ve been out on the weekends but have only been seeing small bucks within range.

Sorry guys, I should have added a qualifier - if its brown and its not a yearling, its down. Had 7 next to me throughout the day on Saturday but couldn't pull the trigger. Had 1 within 10 feet of me while I was on the ground in the morning and 3 of them were 10 feet from the tree in the afternoon. Then today absolutely nothing - spent 9 hours in the tree today and not one deer. Still got plenty of time.

passed a 2 1/2 year old 6 this weekend, hoping he'd work back to my son who was doing his first solo hunt. Well with 30 minutes left that buck did and he shot him. Turns out he was an 8 barely. My hunts got cut short to help track but it was a great learning experience for him. He jumped the deer walking up to him and once I got there we backed out til morning. We blood tracked him and found him 150 yards later - turns out it was a gut shot, so it was an eye opening experience for him. Great lessons, and a successful recovery. However the meat was no good according to the processor, which was disappointing. But overall a great weekend. All 3 of us back at again Wed. Jays buck 11172018-2.jpg

I guess I'll help out another team and point out that I think I remember @redsquirrel saying that for anyone with more than 1000 posts he would count the deer even without a saddle pic. I think you qualify @Autumnrider
