TEAM 3 - BARK BUSTERS

Long story, jumped him. Going out at first light, got permission from the landowner behind me. Have a better write up for y’all tomorrow.
When all things settle down from that deer, I'd love to hear your impressions of the IWOM. I tried one on at the Harrisburg Show last year, but I am interested in impressions from the saddle.

@Hunter260 - Nice buck!
@Bigterp - Hope you find your deer. Sounds like liver to me.

I went out this weekend for first Illinois firearm. It was miserable - very cold and windy. I hunted out of my saddle for two hunts - for the colder and windier hunts I just huddled up against trees on the ground.

I didn't see much, just some small does, a spike, and a 6 pointer. All of the does were traveling in groups and the bucks didn't appear interested. None of the scrapes in my area are clean. Hopefully I'll get a shot at something good in the next firearm season.

I use one. They are awesome and have the cutouts to enable you to use your bridge. That said, I haven’t hunter out of a saddle with it yet. I also have a HBS that I hunted out of once and it is super warm but mods would have to be made to hunt out of a saddle with it.

The bridge through the pass though doesn’t allow me to fully extend the material to my feet. But I cut out the inside of the handwarmer pockets & zip them onto the bridge & don’t feel I lose much heat. Pretty small mod, better than the cut you have to make in hbs

Soooo used the EDP for the first time yesterday. After 2 years with a Predator, it was a change. But I think I'm gonna like it once I get used to it. I like the way they shaped it. I would recommend it.

I switched from predator last season to EDP this season and prefer it over the predator even though its heavier. I really like the larger rear facing edges for the way I like to hang to one side keeping myself closer to the tree. I picked up a predator XL too and have used it a few times. Its obviously more roomy than the predator and a little more area than the EDP too, but I still prefer the EDP for the reason mentioned.

All - I'll be out tomorrow evening with my muzzleloader on a new farm. Saturday I have a friend coming into town and we are going to hunt out of an elevated blind. He's new to hunting and if we see something good I'm going to take it.

Hope everyone is staying safe and having a good season.

This guy is still in the woods. One of our other shooters was shot though. I act like these are “my” deer….. just opens up heartbreak. Still I do it… can’t help myself. 81722D28-C4E9-469C-8E56-877E46C568DB.jpeg

We are about to start heating up here. It doesn't heat up into a full on rut rampage like most of you probably experience but we will start to see some chasing. The area I am in has 4 distinct rut periods that after a few years of hunting the area I am starting to pick up on. They pipe off from mid december all the way to the end of January. If I am lucky I will be able to stay where the deer are moving. I am already starting to see a little movement out of small bucks harassing does. I know this competition is simply for fun but I do apologize for handicapping myself with this stick bow. If I kill even one deer with it this year it will be a huge success for me. I may make it out to some National Forest land for a gun hunt or two in the next couple weeks if I am lucky. I didn't make it out to hunt where my dad shot those two bucks last thanksgiving, I really wanted to but its so far away. I am not sure if they would still be rutting or not.

Where I am hunting this year is a lot of low lying area that the USFWS floods in the winter for migratory birds. We just got pounded with 4 inches this week so I am not sure how everything is looking now, or will look after the other 2 inches we suppose to get this week. A good portion of this land floods making the spots I have found scouting possible inaccessible or no longer worth the time. I found a white oak tree that was getting absolutely hammered last week but the leaves are falling and it may be done. I had other engagements and wasn't able to hunt it right then and there, despite really wanting to. It is close to several red oaks that are still dropping well too, so hopefully they will switch over and stay in the area. I will likely hunt this white oak tomorrow morning despite the rain. I wont be able to hunt any more this weekend, so I am hoping to make it happen. We still have two months of decent hunting but time is flying and i've only been able to hunt a handful of times, I have not come close to scratching this itch this year.

I hope everyone is doing well. If you still have season left I hope you get a couple deer for the freezer and the scoreboard! Go TEAM! haha

Ok guys proper write up later, low liver hit needed the dog to find. Buck on the board & in the cooler. View attachment 76409
Can't remember where your write up was, did you haul this out on the 28 or your new 38? Also, did you debone everything or just throw quarters and loins in the bag? I'm curious how much weight you had on your back? I far was the haul out? It looks like I can see some legs sticking out.

Thanks!

It was my 28, quartered not deboned. 2 bags , that bottom on is front quarters , neck & straps, the hind quarters are vertical. About 87lbs including pack. Not a long hike but I steep climb out….,,,
