Team 3 Thread

My contractor hasn't even started our kitchen remodeling. He finished the deck and is working on siding now. I don't have to do any of the work thank God.
Mine was "homeowner assisted" which really meant I was menial labor for the job. :tearsofjoy: The guy who did it is a life long friend of mine who does pretty high end kitchen remodels. Mine was kind of a "little job" to him but he fit me in because of our friendship. He's pretty smoked busy right now too. It was a three week project that actually started 3 weeks late. Since he was staying here we worked 12-13 hour days every day but two (one he had to go back to pick up the tile and another we just called it a 4:00) and he had to start his next job after only a one day break to unload and reload his truck with different tools. Assisting did save me a pile of cash though.

EDIT: A couple of pics. New cabinets, countertops/backsplash, layout, lighting, flooring and paint

I took the 8 yr old to sit in our pop up blind today. We had a 4pt walk up so close to the blind he slapped it with his tail. We also saw an 8 that I probably should have shot, and had another smaller 8 right at dark. The kid is a buck magnet. He can’t wait until gun season so he can shoot his 1st deer.

That’s great stuff right there. I miss those days!!

We're on the board with a doe! I found an area yesterday where some white oaks and beech trees are dropping right on the edge of a little pothole swamp. Lots of tracks in the mud and feed sign. I set up on the ground in a blow down with the longbow and saw several deer, a 6 point walked within 10 yards of me, but the rest of the deer were 40+ yards out.

Today I brought the compound. I walked in and set up in the rain, about 50 yards from where I was the last night. The rain stopped around 2:30. I didn't see a deer until 6:30 when 3 small bucks came out of the swamp and fed underneath me. Last shooting light was 7:22 tonight. I was just about ready to pack up at 7:15 when I saw a silhouette of a deer coming toward me through the dark timber. The deer was less than 30 yards away, and it was dark enough that even at that distance I had to look through my binos to make sure it wasn't a small buck. She stepped into an opening at about 20 yards broadside, and I drew the bow back, not knowing whether or not I would even have enough light to shoot. I could still see my pin, and I could still see the deer silhouette, so I held on her heart and pulled through the shot. I heard the "pop" that you want to hear, and she took of running hard.

With more rain coming fast, I got down and looked for my arrow right away. I found the arrow covered in lung blood, but couldn't find any blood on the ground. I walked about 50 yards in the direction she ran, and not a drop. Rather than getting myself into a stressful night of grid searching in the rain/dark I opted to back out and call a friend with a great tracking dog, and I'm sure glad I did. The dog took us 100+ yards from impact through thick cover right to my deer, just in time as it started pouring. It was a perfect double lung shot and we never saw a drop of blood on the ground.

Great shot! Congrats on putting some meat in the freezer.

I’m hoping to get out Friday afternoon for the last sit for a month or so. Just gotta decide on a spot to go. Got some does hitting a feed tree fairly regularly around 6 so thinking that spot if the winds right. Works been too hectic to get out in the afternoons for too long and then all of October is going to be a wash for me. Getting married on the 14th and flying out to Greece for the Honeymoon on the 16th. We’ll be back at the end of October and I’ve got a 3 day quota hunt from November 2-4 in a pretty good area to get prepped for.

Congrats but good god man, what are you thinking getting married during deer season? Lol. I’ve been married for 29 years and am to the point where my present to my wife is me getting out of the house hunting so she has the day to herself. There is hope:)

She wanted a fall wedding, can’t complain too much since the weather should be great. And thanks to all of y’all.

On another note I got decisions to make tonight now. Got this guy headed up into a bedding area this morning. Might change where I want to sit tonight. Been mainly just getting does and small bucks on the couple cameras I got out

Very nice buck! Hope your posing with him soon.

Heading to deer camp tonight after work. The Michigan archery season opens on Sunday, we will be hanging around camp and doing some grouse hunting tonight and tomorrow, then bow hunting through Wednesday. We're camping and hunting on state land, though its more like glamping, as I'm taking the camper this time around.

I've got some decent bucks to go after this year based on summer trailcam inventory. Conditions for the days we will be hunting are pretty mild, with a perfect wind direction for some of my best spots. I really prefer to save these for the last week of October, first week of November, but might be going in on one or two of them this week to take advantage and hopefully catch someone off guard whonis still on a summer pattern.

I'm not a target buck guy, but really hoping to cross paths with this guy at some point this season. Been getting him fairly regular all summer, here is a shot from yesterday morning.

Yep, the wife and I have been together 30 years now. She refers to deer season as "Her Vacation" now. :tearsofjoy:

@deertrout, it sounds like we have similar plans for the weekend. I'm off to camp (with the camper) around noon today. I'm taking the shotgun to do a little grouse hunting and wandering around while I wait for the opener on Sunday. If that's a northern Michigan buck you're giving me some sense of hope for upcoming seasons, that guy's a hoss! They're just not many that look like that here in the "northwest 12" counties. Good luck and go get him!

Good luck out there and be safe! Give me a shout if you need any help dragging one out!

I'm a couple of hours from home this weekend. :tearsofjoy: Good luck to you too!

Bad news is I got down here and the area around camp has been marked for cutting since mid August. Hopefully they're not planning on cutting this fall . . . Although it has happened to me before.

You got to liking that spot. Happens every time. As soon as you get to liking some woods, here they come and cut it all to hail.

Really beautiful kitchen. Super job.

Didn’t get out tonight, work went to crap this afternoon and needed to get home for some wedding planning stuff. Good thing that buck is out there where my quota hunt is in November. Let’s hope he sticks around for then.

Just pray for rain every week. Loggers don’t work in the rain. Or, it could have been a Timber Cruiser taking inventory. Down here in the South they are always marking trees.
