Good luck, keep us "not in the woods" updated

Well my hunt got cut short last night. The wife called saying her Wrangler wouldn’t start. I went up and tried to jump it, and it wouldn’t crank. Apparently she dropped her key fob in the parking lot and it shattered. When she put it back together she left the circuit board laying on the ground. Long story short I’ve got to meet a locksmith to get a new key, so I can start the Jeep. Good thing I know the folks at the gas station, or I’d be paying for a tow bill too.

Always something! Life throws some crazy stuff at as. I'm taking the wife out of the house for a bit, she is in her last year at nursing school and really needs a get away!

I know it’s a no brainer, but easy to get tunnel vision this time of year. It pays dividends to can a hunt or give up a weekend (especially a weekend warmer temps & rain) this time of year & grab an impromptu getaway!

Well, the good news is I got out of going to Chicago for work this week. The bad news is I had to get Covid to do it. This is my first time getting it, not fun. Today is my last day of quarantine according to the CDC's new guidelines, feeling better, but man, I feel stupid, can't think straight. Reminds me of the song, comfortably numb, except my head feels like two balloons. Need some time in the saddle. May try and sit tonight.

Worked until 2am so was a little late getting up today. Was supposed to be wet and cruddy so I went and wandered a new area I’d never hunted before. Walked about 6 miles per my phone, sat along a trail for a while, climbed a tree later on a bedding area I found, and put up a camera. Didn’t see anything but still good exercise and I think I’ll give the area another go later.

Get feeling better, pound Liquid IVs

Sit on the ground if you are not head straight. Wouldn’t want to hear about a climbing accident.

Looks like another very wet weekend here in northern Michigan. Might be a good weekend to just get some rest and relaxation in.

I got out for a sit on Sunday afternoon with my brother. Had high hopes that a couple pretty regular bucks that he has been getting on camera would come through at last light from nearby marsh bedding but they were no shows. Nothing but chipmunks, squirrels and a possum.

Same here. Supposed to start raining at noon Friday and stop sometime Sunday. No Sunday hunting here in Maine ( Dumbest law ever) but there's a cold front coming in behind it Monday and I'm starting to see some decent buck movement on my cell cams. I'm gonna get after them hard next week as I have a moose to go kill at the end of the month. I think the wind will be perfect for the tree I killed my 8 out of last year so I'm anxious to sit there for the first time this year.

Truck almost loaded, leaving Friday morning for the panhandle and my opener. Should have great weather for Florida....highs in the low-mid 70s and lows in the low 50s for the first 4-5 days! I've hunted this public since 2015 but it got ravaged by Hurricane Michael in 2018 so it was like having to completely relearn and start over. The deer density is crazy high, so you always have does blowing or nearby so it makes it harder to get to the bucks and they know it too. It does have some ag which this year is corn, peanuts and sesame mostly....no soybeans for the 2nd year in a row :( The deer density and ag is extremely unusual for public down here and many who hunt here and have hunted the midwest say there are some similarities. We need bucks to have 3 points on one beam or a main beam greater than 10" on this property, so fingers crossed!!!! I've shot deer opening weekend 3 of the last 4 years....

Had a nice sit tonight, hunted a "throwaway" spot with good potential from the ground, didn't want to take any safety risks with this covid brain fog thing still so strong. Tucked up to a small dead fall and sipped pedialyte between squirrel sightings. Felt great to be back in the woods and to breath some fresh air.

@boynebowhunter, I think I'm gonna hunt Friday night and Saturday, pretty low chance of rain where I'm hunting, fingers crossed the current forecast holds!

How many points is a moose worth in the contest? 5pts plus the width of the rack I hope:)

The camper is all packed for the weekend. I'm headed out at first light in the morning (almost got a spike with the truck/camper last weekend in the morning dark). Looks like rain all day tomorrow, afternoons Friday and Saturday and a decent Sunday. I already told the wife not to expect me back until Monday afternoon next week.

The following Thursday I'll take the camper down for the last time and it'll stay down there until the 12th or 13th as I hunt the pre-rut and rut as hard as I can. Hopefully I can fill at least one of my buck tags during that time.

Haha! Too bad it's a cow permit :tearsofjoy: The state is trying to cut the population down in the zone I'll be hunting to see if it will reduce the tick population. In some areas the winter kills from ticks are high.

It had 5 does at 15 yds today. I picked out the biggest one drew back, and was waiting for her to clear a branch, when all of a sudden a dog came out of no where, and ran them all off. My season is not going well right now.

Brrrrrr! Starting to feel like hunting season out there!

Hunted a new spot with a buddy tonight. Scouted my way in and sign was non-existant so I sat on the ground near the best looking terrain feature on the map. About 30 minutes before dark I was certain I could hear my buddy mouth grunting to stop a deer. The sound was so obnoxious there was no way a real deer made it. I sent him a text asking if it was him and he said no. All the sudden a doe pops out at 30yds. I didn't have a clear shot so I stood up to get a better angle and next thing you know two other doe coming in behind her busted me and all three were bounding over the ridge, haha!

Definitely my last sit in early season clothes. Time to bust out the long underwear.
