Team 5 Thread

Well I shot 4 tonight! Went home to get the dogs will give you an update in a bit….. it was a self imposed quota hunt on a small pc of private the landowner was giving me a ribbing over thanksgiving for not shooting any deer on his place. Been holding out for a nice buck, tonight was time to pay dues, every doe headed for the hayfield got one……..
And on a Sunday as well. Man I'm jealous for multiple reasons lol strong work, hope the dogs find all 4 easily (or that you know where they are and this is just practice for the dogs)

Found all 4 , coyotes found the 4th one before we did. All cut up & headed home. I knew where 1 was they found the other 2. They are a load both at the same time. The last one my beagle maverick quit blood & drug me there wind checking ( we were upwind btw). Wonder how many deer have you pegged from a distance you never see……IMG_1282.jpegIMG_1280.jpegIMG_1281.jpeg

Nice haul! Way to stack them up! That's 20 points for team 5 right?, LOL.

As far as deer having us pegged from a distance and we never see them, I think it is way more common than we think. I got that feeling a lot last season hunting quite a bit from the ground. Several times I just set up quickly after bumping one and they were back in under 5 minutes. If I had attempted any sort of climb, they would have seen me for sure. I feel like a lot of time they don't blow or make a commotion, they just ease off, particularly where they feel pressure or are hounded by coyotes. I think a lot of time they don't want to give away their location.

Ok, so it is officially that time of the season where I have to reboot. The early season has come and gone with some success. We are now in that funky limbo of warm wet weather and pre rut (maybe?). I've hunted 27 days so far this season. I've killed 2 does and a coyote. Last season at this point I had hunted 23 days and killed 2 bucks. The last time I was in the woods was last Thursday. It seems like an eternity ago for some reason.

This happens to me every season. I hit a wall after Thanksgiving for some reason and my energy and enthusiasm drops out the bottom. At that point I look back at the current season, I look at what I was doing and where I was the previous season, and I take stock.

I'm not going out today. It is probably going to reach 70 degrees today with 98% humidity. The weather is predicted to get better soon. Over the next couple of days, I plan to get back at it.

Anybody else experience this? Mid-season reboot?

Yes, I took it out on those 4 does with a slug gun! Now time to reset & go find a buck to kill bc the ones I have located are around but I’m not on em

I’ve been deathly ill, in the bed for 7 days kind of sick. I’m feeling better today, so I may go tomorrow. Congrats on all those deer fellas.

Good to hear you are feeling better. Getting sick stinks. Getting sick during season sucks.

I went out yesterday and hunted one of my prime buck spots. Of course, I had a doe come in and pose broadside with her head turned away. It never fails, lol.

Choot er!
I was sorely tempted, lol. I just don't want to stank up one of my good buck spots and she is serving as bait, as well.

I went back in there this afternoon and sat until dark. No takers of any kind tonight but they had been hitting the scrapes. So maybe something will happen off in there. I'm going to give that spot a few days rest.

Got him on camera once, seen him in a field once. Hopefully I connect before season is over, or at least find sheds
Dang that’s a cool buck love that extra brow…… I connected on one of my target bucks late January last year. Gonna need to do the same this year. So far a pile of does

I found a "target" buck yesterday (i think most people would call him a basket rack lol) as well as double digit does, hoping to get back to that area, be in a different tree and get lucky. Ideally I could take some time off and go after the next days snowfall but not sure that will work

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated. I’ve been working a lot hunting very little. I plan on getting after them this weekend, I’ve got to get two deer in the freezer before Feb 6th.
