Any more updates on this buck @hokiehunter373 ?
I set up in a different area Saturday morning. I was hoping to find out a bit more about how he was traveling and possibly shoot him or another solid buck I had seen on cam over there. I went in blind and early and got set up in a tree. 20 mins before legal light I had 7 doe come filing by. With the snow on the ground it was an easy shot but of course I was just stuck waiting. They hung around until 4 mins before legal and then got out of there. Only other deer I saw was a spike. So I did get a little intel but not really what I wanted. I got down around 9 and figured I’d go move a cam in another spot and learn some more there. I was barely walking in and saw 5 deer bedded down. Luckily the crunch of the snow was covered by how windy it was. I snuck in to 15 yards and got in front of a tree to draw right as the closest doe stood up. Unfortunately my range finder must of read some of the brush in front her and not the deer itself. Turns out the shot was 25.
Screwing up because of a range finder error was a bit frustrating but that stalk was some of the most fun I’ve ever had and it went absolutely perfect besides that one dang detail. Shot was beautiful. Right on line but just short. The tree paid the price lol. After that I scouted my way back to my camera and kicked up an ungodly amount of deer. Idk how many just tails running everywhere. 15-30 of them. So I definitely accomplished what I wanted to there. Moved the cam to learn more about how they’re traveling.
Finally, I wanted to head in to where that buck has been spending his time. There was one area I hadn’t got to investigate on the back side of where I’ve been hunting. I figured that was probably his way out at night. Soon as I walked in I found a trail that seemed likely. Hung a cam and got confirmation last night that he made it through the season. Ready for next year!
