My well just failed this morning. At this point we think the well casing collapsed so I have no usable water. Waiting to hear back from a couple of companies on availability to either sleeve it or drill a new well. Either way it's going to hurt my upcoming hunting. Wife is already wanting to go to a hotel. ugggghhh

Someone has to go find water for the family. Coincidentally, deer like water too. You should follow the deer to the water. May as well bring some venison home too, since you're already putting in the effort!

Really though, sorry to hear. Hopefully you get it figgered quick.

Dude that's terrible, hope you can get it resolved. I always have a bit of a pit in my stomach this time of year. Going back before I was even born there have been several deaths in the family right around Thanksgiving/hunting season to the point it's kinda like the family joke, whelp that time of year who's turn is it? I've had several appliances crap the bed during the rut and my water heater I think is about to go on the fritz. My kids are always getting sick this time of year. It's just something after the last thing.

To make it worse we can’t get anyone to return phone calls. Talked to one well driller and he recommended running a hose to the pressure tank and running water for an hour to see if it would clear up. Bad idea. Before an hour was up the hose had quit and clogged so now I’m guessing every pipe in the middle is trash with dirt. Here’s the shower floor after 20 or so seconds of when it failed

I've really contemplated about even mentioning this. Maybe it should go in the shame thread.
Anyway. Got some much needed rain Monday. Used the noise cover from the wind and rain to do some scouting on a property I've spent three years trying to learn. Slipped down a big creek to the power line easement on the downwind side of the property and planned on working a bench of the ridge back towards the truck looking for scrapes/rubs. Entered the woods and ~60 yards in is a little flat with some red oaks. Saw a buck feeding under sed oaks. Pulled the muzzleloader up to look at him and he raised his head at the same time. A big ivy vine lined right up with the only side of his rack that I could see. That plus the semi fogged semi raindrop filled scope I thought,"oh lord, he's got some mass on him." Bang dropped him. Damned 7pt basket rack , ugh. Deboned him on the spot and packed him out. Waste of a good scout day, should have brought my recurve to keep me from doing stupid stuff like that.

Been there, done that. It happens, it doesn't affect the taste of the meat though. Congrats on some venison!

What a difference a week makes. I pulled out of here last Sunday and it still felt like there was a lot of leaf cover. Pulling in today it feels like all of them fell this week. The tree tops look bare.

We lost a lot of hickory/pecan/elm leaves this week. Post/red/white oaks are still holding on. Red oaks as green as mid August per usual.

Aiming to get out again this weekend. Bad part is all day tomorrow calls for rain. It wasn't bad 2 weeks ago with the rain- was able to slip in quietly and ended up on a buck that never heard me...right up until I was fighting my rainsuit and he saw me finally. But the rain only lasted a couple hours that day. Supposed to be all day tomorrow. I bought a better fitting (and quieter) rain suit for the weekend, but not sure how much I'll see.

Anyone have any good luck stories in the rain to convince me to still go out?

Shot my first buck with a bow standing on a 6' stump leaning against the remaining trunk in a pouring rain (45 years ago). I had to track him on my hands knees under the ferns looking up at the undersides to find blood. First of many I've killed in the rain.

Had another decent buck inside 25 yds tonight. Probably a 100 inch 8 point. I honestly have no idea where he came from, he was just suddenly there. He was really sneaking in the crunchy conditions and traveling the opposite direction I thought he should be. Bottom line is I never had a clean shot at him. There was always crap in the way. Thats hunting! :tearsofjoy:

Well, I got in woods by the house for the first time this year. Somehow I managed to find a patch of white oaks on a property that traditionally doesnt have them. Had my pacseat and air rifle planning to shoot squirrels and set a camera or two, and see if it’s worth huntjng. Acorns everywhere and had to beat the hogs and deer off with a stick. Felt really dumb for not bringing my hybrid and the mini.

Kind of wild to think I walked in the woods a single time, on an exact scouting path I wanted to make, and found this spot. Here was my method: found largest unbroken chunk of property that butts up to lake and has a drainage in it. Walked from trail access into middle of piece. Dropped into drainage. Immediately found sign. Followed it up to white oaks. Slapped myself for not bringing bow.

Hoping to set up this evening. Assuming same wind and pattern of behavior, I put odds at 75% I have deer within bow range. We shall see. It didn’t really lend itself to a morning hunt, though I’m sitting here drinking coffee second guessing myself. Oh well, knock out a little lady time then off to the woods.

Will probably make a trip to Arkansas early December. Maybe something over thanksgiving. Then I plan to get some good rut hunts in back in Louisiana.

Didn’t see anything this morning but there was a buck bed about 100 yards directly in front of me behind a blowdown. It was fresh with no leaves in the bed and leaves were raining out of the trees this morning. I’m guessing he was there and slipped off when I got down (all speculation of course).

In a new spot this afternoon. Plenty of food where I am. Hoping for a hot Halloween buck. Hot breezy and chance for showers.

Got winded by a good un yesterday morning. Combination of the weather man being dead wrong on wind prediction, thermals, and the buck coming in from the opposite direction as anticipated. Gonna give it a go tomorrow morning.
