Team 8 Thread

Had to run home for a work related issue Sunday night so I could be in early today. Took advantage of being home today to get the rest of the yard work done. Back in camp this evening ready for tomorrow morning.

Don't they know that you're on Rutcation???

The nerve of some people.
Actually I was considering a permanent rutcation that was offered. I had to go back to discuss it with the wife and HR. In the end the wife and I decided that we don't think the time is quite right yet. I'm not volunteering anyway. It was worth a trip home to consider though.
It is funny though that I encounter the vast majority of my life changing events occur over my rutcations, what is it about November?

I spent the better part of last week in Michigan at my families bow camp. Hadn’t hunted there in years, and it was awesome to spend time with that crew of family and close friends again. We had 10 guys in camp and but for a few deer seen, none taken. I returned to Minnesota on the same struggle bus I took over to Michigan.

Our gun season opens on Saturday. I’m trying to decide if I want to get a gun license and try that, or if I’d rather hunt a bow only property in Minnesota or head over to Wisconsin to bow hunt. Decisions decisions.

Muzzleloader opener is this Saturday down here, forecast is 80 degrees. No thanks!

Back from Bama. No deer shot out of the saddle. I killed a doe off the ground and passed on a bunch of does with spotted fawns and little bucks out of the saddle. No pigs on the property to kill, which is fortunate and unfortunate.. I did walk a lot of there property I hadn't been to before, got a few of trails cut into some thicket bottoms nobody has been to in years, got some lanes opened up and a couple cameras set in promising spots. Hopefully I'll be in good shape when I go back in Jan for the rut.

We set a high temp record here in MN yesterday and have been living with the windows open for the past 4 days. Tomorrow it’s not going to break 50. I’ll be in the stand in the morning with my bow hoping to take advantage of the cooldown.

That cool down is forecast for Tuesday for us. Hot as heck until then

65 when I got out of bed this morning. I was soaked from sweat before I even got to the tree. Supposed to rain hard this afternoon. I think I'm going to sit tonight out and give this old body a recoup evening. I've been hitting it hard since the 28th with really not a lot of success. I'm actually surprised by how little rut indication I'm seeing so far. Very few scrapes and I've yet to hear/see any chasing. Hopefully it picks up here quick.

I didn’t get out this morning but am up now. Biggest indicator of rut is the 4 cars in the lot before me lol.

Tomorrow I’m gun hunting up north on state land. I’m taking tonight to enjoy the solitude of bow hunting one last time before the orange army starts putting lead in the air tomorrow.

Aiming for a good weekend out here. Activity has been picking up pretty good, and I've been seeing a lot more daytime movement on cam. We've got a really heavy storm rolling through tonight, but it should be wrapped up by morning. I'm not crazy about the wind this weekend, but I'm hoping the soft ground will help me put sneaking I'm. Fingers crossed to put some points up this week!

Yall got more of that rain than we did. I barely got a quarter inch.

Seeing quite a few deer this morning including the big boy I was after last year. Was cruising about 80 yards from me..

He showed up on camera yesterday. Looks like he broke a brow tine recently too

I had run back home for the night to do a little laundry and let the wife know I was still kicking. Based on the road coming back into camp we might have had a couple of inches. Deer are really moving this afternoon, I bet I saw 20 on the way back all in fields in daylight. I'm afraid tonight's hunt is out though. They're calling for gusts to 50 mph. I really don't want to play windsock. :tearsofjoy:

The split g2 buck i was chasing got killed this morning while i was at inlaws helping dig holes in the front yard. Opening of ML.
