Team 9 Thread

Ended up not seeing anything. There was another rub in front of me that I didn’t notice for about two hours. Rappel down and pack up went alright. Rope bow and pull down rope managed to get tangled with a couple of sticks but wasn’t much more than 5 minutes of messing around in the dark. Second rub:

If anyone is wondering the blue hose is a several hundred yard tube that some guy across the road has set up to a spring he has claimed as his own on the county land. Not sure about the backstory on that one.

Haven’t made it to the woods yet

Shoulder is tweaked so have turned in this weeks bow quota at most likely the best wma in FL & just now gave away next weeks hunt at a different wma with good bucks on it

The season is long, you'll get your chance.

I'm over here fighting with every inch of will power I have to pass up some small basket racks.

My season is really long so I should be good

I have decent hunts all the way into Feb

Unfortunately the contest ends before my last hunt

Hiked to the river mid morning. Hunting near some walnuts and a game trail. First time saddle hunting with my bow. Went mid morning so I didn’t have to do it in the dark.

Ok so…… today was opening day for
Bow here in NY. I forgot to set my alarm as I was waiting for my hunting clothes to get
Out of the dryer. I got up around 530 am (late) didn’t get to my spot until 630. Today was the first time I attempted to test out my saddle and climbing method. I found the rub above and I decided to set up on the heavily beat trail leading to it. I tried to get into a split tree but failed. Gave up and came down. Decided to hunt from the ground. Sat for 20 mins and I said “what am I doing” at this point it’s around 730. I then decided to go on a little scouting mission for about 30 mins. Then I decided to go back to the tree where I had my sticks and saddle. I decided to now practice with the saddle and climb. As I was adjusting the saddle on my waist something catches my eye. It was a big buck walking right towards me in the trail I was like “*** is that an elk “ Buck sees me and bolts ! Was at least a 8 pointer. Huge head and body. 40 yards. If I didn’t give up on that original set up the buck would have walked right under me. On a positive note I finally got to try saddle

Always sucks learning a lesson the hard way. Keep practicing your climbs also if you haven't yet id get some practice shots in from the saddle and transitioning around the tree as if a deer is in front of you . My first attempt at getting a shot off out of a saddle was laughable. I even dropped an arrow in the process.

Got some practice climbs in yesterday. I think I’m close to getting it down with this ultimate one stick.

Also this weekend I was invited to join a muzzleloader hunt in two weeks on my uncle’s farm in upstate NY! It’s been a family “camp” tradition for years but I’ve never joined to hunt. I’m stoked to finally try it and I think it poses my best chances this season to get some deer! Hoping big to land some points for Team 9!

Upstate NY is really overlooked. I had some great success up that way when I was stationed at Fort Drum.

I also have a hunt planned with a cousin in November back in the Adirondacks. But from what I hear of those woods, I don’t think I’ll get to use the saddle since we’ll probably be tracking on foot. And given the deer density there, it’s mostly for the adventure and experience.

Adirondacks are hit or miss with tracking. Without perfect snow or wet quiet ground you'll probably be sitting more than you think so you may want it in the truck just incase.

Yeah, I plan on taking it just in case. Have you hunted that region? From what I can see by YouTube videos it hardly looks like big enough trees or open enough timber to suit stand-style hunting.

Was running out of time to pick my days off in november so I settled on the 4th, the second week of the month and Tuesday the 16th along with the week of Thanksgiving which is when rifle season starts. Should be able to make something happen in that time frame.
