I had an awesome sit tonight. 3 bucks chased a doe by me and went onto an island in the river below me. A 4pt and 2 big 8’s. At one point she laid down at the rivers edge 40 yards from me and the biggest dominant buck stood by her side. He was broadside for a while. 40 is just outside my comfort zone. I have made some great shots and some poor shots at foam. 2 things were on my mind. 1 if I miss, it’s going to suck to walk through a freezing river to get my arrow and #2 the reason I quit hunting from age 16-43, I gut shot my first deer and never could recover it. I felt so horrible. I didn’t want to risk wounding another one. Finally I decided to go for it and just as I started to draw, the chase started back up and they flew up toward me and banged a left away from me. Going back tomorrow for an all day sit.

U guys been getting after it. Good job fellas.

I should be able to start hitting it a little harder once this military base opens up those archery blocks. I was invited as a guest this weekend or Fri sat technically. I think we got a good game plan...gonna try out outwalk the 99% with the pedal bikes and go thru some unpleasantries...guns are out 1 buck between us and plenty of pigs if we can find them.

Man, good bless you. I know that this is the norm in you region but dang, you have such a positive outlook on your hunting situation. You find ways to hunt with all the restrictions and road blocks, and you get it done! It's guys like you that would come to my area or a place like Iowa and mop up and make hunting look easy!

I don't know about the "get it done" part but I appreciate that....I keep plugging away and maybe add some points to help out.

I'm looking forward to outta state trips in the future....these kids gotta grow up a little more. Pretty much all my hunting buddies do outta state trips and show pics of big bucks they kill and talk about seeing 10+ bucks all in 1 day... That's sounds pretty awesome...I haven't seen 10 bucks in 8 seasons

I'll say this I'm in the same boat, outa of state trips are out for me until my kiddos are older, I have a 12, 8, 2 year old so I'm a few years away from that.
I'm a bit of a drive from you but you'd always be welcome here! I have a unique opportunity to hunt PA, WV, and OH all with in an hour drive!!

14,11, and 1.....Redbeard's been bugging me to come show him how to hunt public land for a while now and I feel an obligation to make it up there for first big outta state trip....meet ya in VA hehehehe
 
Hunted dark to dark yesterday from ground level behind the tree with 4 trunks. Saw 2 bucks and a doe at 50-80 yards away. I think I finally have this spot figured out and I have a new tree in mind that should be where the action happens. I’m feeling really good about getting it done next weekend.
Thanks to the rest of the team for dragging me into 3rd place.
 
I'll be going out in the morning. Pretty good cold snap... Possible upper 30s/lower 40s overnight/in the morning. I have to take my kid to the bus stop so I'll be a little late and probably not parking till after sun up but it'll be crisp air to get a bunch of scouting done and find a real good spot for the afternoon.

I too am a milsurp guy! I truly believe it is the best gear you can get for the money. I use alot of my old usmc issue gear, but alot of my stuff is now army for to ocp camo because I get alot of that now that I'm in the air guard!
 
When I killed that big guy a couple weeks ago I had the flu, albeit not broken ribs but still the flu sucked. I knew I wouldn't die, hunting is my only hobbie, and I ask myself all the time when I start to feel "burned out" how bad do I want it???? Lol be careful with them ribs friend don't push it too hard, but how bad do you want it! God luck, rifle opens Monday in WV for me!
 
Gathered up my stuff from the hunting shack today. Haven’t been there in a month, 2 weeks of snow on the ground, and only 3 single deer tracks. Deer shack is now a dead zone.
