Tell me about the JX3

Why the 100$ price increase?

When I bought mine in 2019 it was $375 plus $20 shipping. That was fora Gen 1 with plastic buckles. Now it’s a much improved product with rated buckles and other improvements and it’s only $459 two years later. Without even factoring in today’s crazy inflation, I would say they are holding the costs down quite well.

Does anyone utilize the 1/4 threaded insert on jx3? I would like some sort of mini arm I could screw into this insert that would raise up, bend out and have a phone holder on the end.

I've used my jx3 a few times this year and so far I love it. I do have a few questions that might make it more comfortable/easy though.

1. I see a lot of you using the Eastern Outdoors felt pouches for ropes and stuff. Would I need to purchase the molle attachment pouch or the loops?

2. I feel like I'm tethering too high. At eye level I had difficulty swinging around the tree, so I went up as high as I could to tether from my top step. I can move around better, but I'm wondering if this height is adding extra work to my legs maybe? I'm 6'7".

3. Any pointers on "next best choice" when perfectly straight trees with few low limbs are available? You guys might can save me a lot of wasted trips up and down!

4. Is SRT or 1 sticking a big enough advantage over using 4 Helium mini's that I should do that for next season, or should I spend more time getting comfortable with the system that I have now? I hunt primarily private property, so I would leave some paracord in ideal trees if I went SRT. It's basically impossible for me to walk more than 1000 yards or so to get to any location on our property, so weight isn't that big of a factor for 95% of my hunting. The main benefit I see for these options is really just the ability to quickly and quietly rappel down in the dark.

5. I know I want an ascender for my lineman's belt adjustments because that prussic is for the birds. Any advice for which to get? Currently have a Rollnlock, Kong Duck, and Ropeman 2 on my wishlist but if there are distinct advantages I should narrow that down.

This is my first post, but I've been lurking for quite a while. This is an amazing forum with an amazing group of helpful people.

My JX3 is on order and I'm assembling all the other stuff I need for saddle hunting, so have been researching a lot of stuff, including ascenders for the lineman's, etc.

The R2 presses the rope against the carabiner, so function can change a bit depending on the size/type of 'biner you use with it. The CR and KD both have metal sleeves, so the rope presses against that and not the 'biner, so function is identical regardless of what biner you use. I'm going with the CR, primarily because they are easier to source here in Canada, though I believe it's more expensive than the KD.

My 2 cents worth.

One other question that I haven't seen being discussed about the JX3/Any Saddle. How do most of you take care of bathroom breaks? Seems like it would be fairly difficult and extremely loud to take a leak from 20' in the air, but I don't know that getting down would be any easier or more quiet. My bladder has decided when I climb down on my past few morning hunts.

let it fly or pee in a bottle depending on whether you suscribe to the idea that the deer care. The hardest part is not hitting your climbing stick straps…

You can still stand up/lean like a traditional saddle. No issues with that.

The noise of it splashing from that high doesn't affect nearby deer? I've typically come down for bathroom breaks just to be a bit more quiet.

If you're concerned by noise, pee in a bottle. I'm not sure what would be more disturbing, peeing from above or the hassle of climbing down.

Get one of these! You can attach a bag to your leg, or get a length of thin hosing that will reach the ground, matching your stand height/rappel rope. You could use the latter instead of Dyeema as a rappel retrieval line.

LOL

Ha ha! Is it bad that I'm seriously considering this now? Just make a cap for both ends and store it in a pouch just in case, then flush it out with water once back at the truck.

One thing not emphasized in the thread. If you have bad knees the Jx 3 is way better than using knee pads and a regular saddle.
The whale tail adds to the overall comfort to those with knee issues.

I still have young knees (albeit one of them has had a few ACLs…) and there’s no comparison in comfort. Less fidgeting and movement due to it.

Spent the last couple days taking some people out to rifle hunt. Having the Hybrid was nice. Using it to pack my bibs and Bog tripod was handy + having the ability to use it as a ground chair was nice. I used it as a chair a couple times and in a few cases was able to set the shooter up against the tree and I sat up tethered off on the back side of the tree.

The comfort of the Hybrid is really unbelievable. I was going to take my kestrel on a quick hunt recently and when I thought about having to lean and also having to press my knees up against the tree to be comfortable, I opted out of taking it and ended up taking the hybrid out for a few hours.

Ok, my JX3 arrived and I got the chance to play with it. Initial impression is that it is super comfortable. Though it is a big change from a soft saddle. Have to rethink a lot of my process. So it’s not ready to go on a hunt yet. I did shoot my bow out of if and am happy with that.

What I noticed is if I sit in it with the belt tight from the walk in and climb, it’s uncomfortable so I loosen it to the point of comfort and then I also take off the backpack straps. So at this point I feel like should the worse happen and I take a fall the harness would not keep me in because it is so loose. Not to mention that if I stand up the whole thing tries to slide off my hips. So am I missing an adjustment? I’m wondering if I should wear a rock climbing harness as a back up. Based on what I read here this should not be necessary.

Thanks for any advice.

I always leave the shoulder and leg straps on.
Adjust them to what is comfortable for you while sitting.

Yeah right now what is comfortable is so loose that I am confident I would fall out if I somehow flipped over.
