Tell me about the JX3

What you are saying worries me about switching to a soft saddle from my guidos web. I have a tethrd menace with the recliner strap on the way. I will probably be staying with my web im afraid! But, im willing to give it a chance anyway. If you can find an OG quidos web, grab it. Mine are super tough. I can see how any part of it could break. JX3 changed the design some and jacked up the cost it appears. I guess the quality suffered too.

Try it all out and see what works for you. Everybody’s body shape is different. Its not JX3 fault really, its just the crappy plastic Molle back frame. They didnt build the frame but I will not be grabbing anymore saddle gear such as a “Guidos”. Thank you though

Last time I used mine I heard a pop also....I just checked and didn't see anything thank god

The first JX3 that did this to be was more on the lower portion of the frame. Completely split as well. As with all life support devices, check your gear and please be careful with it.

Did JX3 take care of you? I see on the website: one year warranty against factory defects. It'd be good to know if they did / didn't replace it especially outside of the warranty, for this rather surprising failure. Never heard of one breaking before. Thanks for posting.

The first one that cracked last season was like a month old. It possibly shipped that way as I dont recall a time where I heard a crack. The company sent me a new one very quickly without hassle. I will reach out to them today as the one that broke today is less than 1 year old even from date of original that was cracked. I bought my first JX3 11/24/2020

John will definitely take care of you. The plastic has nothing to do with the integrity of the webbing harness, so it isn't a fall safety concern. Obviously it wouldn't feel good getting caught with that plastic edge though.

I was on the phone with him today and he mentioned that he had your number still from the first failure. You should hear from him soon if you haven't already.

I'm curious what position you were in when it cracked. I know you mentioned leaning back while one sticking. Were you in the seated position, and leaning back, or more standing/leaning when it happened?

Webs are great. We agree.

JX3 did in fact change the design of the Guido's web - but the harness (the safety related component) is exactly the same as the old web design.

The "cost" is not "jacked up" in the sense you're portraying. It is more expensive to make, and it includes components that are more expensive to source. A lineman's rope and tether are 100.00 from any reputable supplier. That leaves the price of the hybrid at 295.00. Most soft saddles come in around 200.00 with no ropes.

The mold to produce the back frames was 10's of thousands of dollars - you can do the math on how much of that cost goes into each unit. The aluminum to build the seat frame is 10.00 or soincluding bending maybe more. The fork is assembly is10-15.00 to have it made.

Cost of materials for soft saddle - 5.00

is the cost “jacked up”? Who’s making a higher profit margin?

As far as the web is concerned, I would imagine it would be well north of 300.00 in today’s market with all components included.

Quality suffered - the web and hybrid are completely different components outside of the harness. Define “quality”? What does that mean that it suffered?

The camo fabric on the web could tear. The hybrid doesn’t have camo fabric - does that mean the web is of lower quality that the hybrid? the aluminum seat panel on a web could bend. The hybrid doesn’t have an alumnium panel to bend. Does that mean the web is of lower quality?

the hybrid has a plastic seat back frame. It can crack. Especially if there’s a defect in the run of frames. The web doesn’t have a plastic frame seat back. So does this reallllllly mean the hybrid is of lower quality than the web?

apples and oranges, minus the webbing harness.

I was trying one sticking with a linemans belt for one last go at 1 sticking before I sell my modded Helium stick. I leaned back into the LB to raise my tether up and must have tweaked the frame or something. SNAP. I might just be too big bodied for the system.

Gen 3 ,with a different formulated polycarbonate for the pack frame, JX3 on its way. So I guess they do make the frame in house. Email says Mid to Late November. Not being satisfied with any of the climbing methods I have tried in the last several seasons so not sure how much I will use it over going back to less fiddle factor climber but its nice knowing the company will make it right.

Seems to be a common theme from most of the threads I’ve read, excellent customer service.

I also had a Gen2 jx3 that the backrest snapped while in use....I am 155 lbs soaking wet so body size was definitely not the issue. Customer service was great though, a Gen 3 replacement was sent out within a day or so, with a return label for the broken unit enclosed. It may be my imagination, but the new Gen3 seems slightly heavier, and could be due to a heavier cast plastic in the backrest. Love the Jx3, super comfortable, just hoping this one holds up.

I’m going to act like the Gen 3 doesn’t exist since I just bought mine lol.

From what I can tell, shorter bridge, much easier adjustable leg buckles, and more adjustable sternum strap that glides on shoulder straps like a lot of packs. The buckles on top frame for leg straps are attached with molle metal retainers.

After a few hunts with the way I had my Hybrid set up, I have since changed it. After several practice runs + a decent amount of actual scouting & hunting, I like it where it’s at.

- Took the dump pouches off. They were reach-able, but wasn’t ideal.

- Since I only use my 40’ rope & Safeguard for the trip down after a hunt, I was able to stow that between the mesh and the frame. Easily access it when it’s time to hook up and rappel down. With about 8 miles worth of walking on it with the current set up, the rope doesn’t move and I didn’t have any hot spots.

- Gear hoist and main tether is clipped on the right side; able to take it off and put it back on without taking off the pack.

- WE Stepps are on a Gripr hung over the hook with an extra loop that can be grabbed while wearing the pack. Drop the seat, take off the Stepps, hang them from a clip near my hip, and put the seat back up.

- Similar to the Stepps, I have my ROS in a dump pouch that can be accessed the same way as my Stepps.

- Left side has my Knaider & Swaider clipped on. Again, can be put on and off with the pack attached.

The only time I have to spend fiddling with anything with the pack off is when I’m packing my rappel rope back up after I have climbed down, which I’m fine with since I have to stand at the base of the tree to pull it down/wrap it up anyway.

After about a month with the Hybrid and some time tuning the set up, I now understand why kyler1945 is always responding to a lot of the threads about the Hybrid and providing additional info/context when it may be lacking.

At first look, the Hybrid was definitely a head-fake for me. It looked bulky, looked like you would be more limited to where you can set up vs a light hang on, and restrictive for shooting.

It’s not a 7# hang on or a 4# saddle, but it is:
-Extremely Comfortable
-Essentially no metal on metal
-Carries the extra weight well (if you consider total set up of ~20 # heavy..)
- Allows me to ditch the extra frame pack
- Once refined, very little fiddle factor. Get to the tree and get to climbing

I’m sure I’m missing some other key advantages, but other than not weighing a couple pounds like a traditional saddle, I haven’t seen an area where it’s really lacking.

I spent a lot of time on YouTube watching reviews/videos of the the Hybrid before deciding to just buy one and give it a try. Other than what Kyle, John, and DIY Sportsman has out there, the content is pretty limited so I wanted to share my thoughts - for what it’s worth.

One thing you might want to add for cold weather hunts is 1" thk. closed cell foam to the underside of the seat.
The foam will fit between the straps and the seat mesh very nicely.
I noticed a significant difference in how warm my butt was in the cold (less than 25 degrees).

Where are you sourcing the foam?
