Tether Handles

I had an order into Tethrd and I added on a few of their keychains. All it seems to be is a hollow cover of their rope, maybe its sewn together prior to heat shrinking it. They make great hitch tenders, but I think could work for this application also. I haven't tried, but it could be DIY'ed pretty easy. I threw out the actual keyring part of it.

I like that idea. I would want something I grab onto and not put my fingers inside. If a slip happens when there inside a little loop then hanging from your fingers doesn't sound like fun to me. I'd rather let the harness and bridge catch me

I've got a bunch of old ratchet straps that I probably should have retired years ago. I bet I could salvage a couple of steel hooks to use to advance my tether. A bit heavy, maybe, but free (to me) and certainly strong enough to hang a bow or anything else I might want to hang from them. They're big enough I can manipulate them with gloves, and they're already vinyl-dipped to prevent rust and noise. I could event incorporate a magnet, somehow, and keep them corralled, if I thought that was an issue.

I've used my s-biners on my tether for adjusting it, then they are already on my tether when I need them too. They slide fine for adjusting

I like to use multiple ropes/tethers, so I wanted to be able to keep tether tenders in my dump pouch and use with whatever I was climbing on that day. Made these because I didn’t like sticking my finger in the off side of the s biner as it’s not overly comfortable. So far, these have worked great and can do double duty by moving them to my gear hanger (don’t like weight on my tether).

Very cool idea.....you could also make the loops on the paracord fobs longer, eliminate the s-biners, and just girth hitch the fobs around your tether. Less weight on the tether and no metal, though more awkward to remove would be the tradeoff.

I may just have to try that when the weather warms up and I start trying 1-sticking.

I had the same thought and tried that design, but the paracord just stretches too much. It just would bite down super hard in the girth around the rope and not follow the fob to open up the tether choke unless you really really pulled. A different material like DynaGlide or something low stretch might be the ticket for that.

Yup, girth hitched anything I’ve tried doesn’t slide around tether, just hitches up tight

That makes sense. I may try it using some thicker Amsteel rather than paracord. And if not, adding s-biners or maybe other small normal biners is simple enough.

Today I tried some paracord pulls with shorter girth tails. Still a no-go. But I realized maybe a big part of my problem could be the rubber fender washer below my quick link. Since I’ve been using my tether as my rappel line, I prefer having the quick link rather than pulling the rope all the way through a girth hitch around the tree. But the fender washer works too well and won’t let rope pass up to allow me to advance the tether. Anybody else run into this? I think girth hitched in a figure eight, tether handles could work, but maybe not with a quick link?

Yep. A stopper knot impeding the advancement of your tether is a real thing. I cut a bit of leather and used it as a washer. In the end, it came back off because of the very thing you described above. Think I'll just implement a great tie when I getto hunting height.

I played with the handles and they worked but I needed to attach one to the 'tail end of my knot/oval to keep the left one in place…..I’ll move the right side around to help raise the rest of the rope..

Today I tried my paracord pulls without the rubber washer, and so therefore without the quick link. They actually worked moderately well, and pulling the entire rappel rope through wasn’t as annoying as I thought it’d be. I’d miss the ability to go around branches though. Will have to give this some more thought.
