Tether staying put

Back to productive discussion, this is another way I secured my tether, but this is with an RC harness using the small caribiner from my pullup rope. Not sure if a saddle would put too much pressure on the biner, it may. I have this on my list to play with to perfect my hybrid setup.

Believe me when I say I don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt on this one...

But if it's slipping then I would argue that, yes, you're doing something wrong.

I haven’t experienced slipping either even with a carabiner and my bow hanging. I think rope choice and bark have a lot to do with it.

Make a 8inch or larger amsteel loop ( make the loop using a locked brummel continuous loop) just connect it like the first picture. Use your finger to make the two loops and put your tether end thru the double amsteel loop as in second picture. I’ve used this for serveral years saddle hunting and it will not slip or loosen up, but can be loosen up so the rope can be pulled out to remove tether or rotate around the tree. It will solve the problems that some of you are having. D09B856D-FF40-42C0-9C20-1CF9C777574C.jpeg 29696CC1-A720-4185-8B00-21977BFBAFC6.jpeg

All great ideas. But I climb with my tether and want to be able to move it easily around the tree if the need arises say bucks coming from wrong direction. I stand up a little slide my tether around the tree some with my feet I then slide my platform around the tree or walk around on steps whatever you have and then I’m ready till he changes direction again. Which I can still alter as long as it’s not tied off. I have tried double wrapping my tether but really don’t consider it necessary and if I want to change position quickly I’m stuck. I have had more trouble with climbing method slipping like sticks. You don’t double wrap them and their not girth hitched. How about double wrapping your lineman’s belt. Not trying to be negative here but if it slips it won’t go very far it will come tight on one side from your weight and worst case scare you into paying attention. Just my opinion.

@bongo, Are you saying that you could use an amsteel Whoopi sling wrapped just below your tether to hold the tether up? You would still be able slide the tether around the tree, if needed. I also like the ability to be able to move around the tree.

I have a question for the guys who have used a platform before . With my Mantis and Predator on the way soon , I had a question about platform use.

Do you ever have the tether slip down ( where it’s girthed around the tree ) when you stand and take pressure off your saddle. I’ve read where some people make a double pass on the girth. Needed?

Opinions ?

Thanks

I double pass my rope through the girth all the time. Never slips.

I guess what I’m saying is yes you can use all of these options but I think we tend to get over cautious sometimes. If you climb with a lineman’s belt on sticks you are taking a lot more chance of something going wrong than hanging on your tether. If it makes you more confident by all means use it. Me I use to build roofs when I was younger walking on trusses all day. The only tie off ropes we had was to tie the ladders to the truck so we didn’t lose them in transit. I have never felt safer than hunting in a saddle the way we do. Just my Opinion nothing more.
