Tethrd One Stick Gen 3's - Season review so far

One guy has a problem and now two? Out of the thousands in use? Like I said. Any metal can fail. We just focus on the now two rather than the thousands that haven’t broke.

Hard to criticize Hawk then, when wayyyy more Hawk sticks have been on trees through the years, assuming that thought process

My 4 x Gen 3 One Sticks have been going strong so far this season. Really am enjoying them and the standoff distance works just fine for my size 12 boots.

In my opinion there's not enough information to form an opinion about the step failure from Facebook that was mentioned above! However, I will continue to follow this thread.

Sooooo,
I had one of my five steps start to wobble/squeak.
I emailed Tethrd. They had a stealth stripped replacement on the way in one business day.
The one thing I did notice though, the stick that developed the problem was my 4th stick in my climb. I’m on that one the most amount of time setting my 5th stick and my platform. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

First season with mine. Hung them plenty and have been really impressed. Stacking was a slight pia in beginning but a little grease and wear in cured that. I have 18in VGO aiders on all four, and able to hit 20ft+ easily. Fingers crossed I don’t get the wobble.

Interesting find.

I think mine get mixed up so I don’t know if I could easily identify which one I stand on longest.

They seem to be very open and quick replacing these wobbles. I’m wondering if they’re seeing quite a few.

Spent a couple days reading the entire thread. I was going to invest in Beast sticks until I started reading this thread and I was sold on the One’s because of the weight until I got towards the end of the thread and saw guys having problems with them. If Thethrd didn’t have a reputation for having issues with its products I would’ve already bought them. I know some are saying out of the thousands sold only a few have issues but those are only the ones we know about in this thread. How many more are having issues that aren’t on this forum or didn’t read/participate in this thread. I’ll keep an eye on this thread and hold off for now and see how it shakes out. That weight is just so enticing.

I don’t think it’s an epidemic yet for them, otherwise I’m sure we would hear about in this forum.
They replaced it fast, no issues there. I didn’t buy the sticks all at once, but they were all new from Tethrd, so maybe they are just having issues with certain production runs?
For now, I’m still satisfied.

I now have several climbs on my Gen3 Ones. If I’m being honest, I think it’s the best climbing stick made. I have had zero issues with mine, and I hope that continues. Others may disagree, but as a whole, the light weight, features, innovation and performance check all the boxes for me. I wish I had five sets. If my One sticks develop problems, I may change my opinion. Up to this point, they have been fantastic.

Don’t get me wrong, I really like my original beast sticks and beast stick minis. They are built incredibly well, and they perform excellent. I love the quality craftsmanship and will continue to use the Beast sticks. But if I were to pick one stick to own, it would be the Gen3 Ones. But of course, I can’t just have one set, I seem to have 10 sets!

I am gonna keep a close eye on Arsenal this year. Rumor has it that guy that designed the X20 sticks also designed these tethrd one sticks. Arsenal comes out with a fixed stick. It might put these tethrd sticks to shame…
Yeah, I am very excited to see that fixed stick from hunt arsenal. @MIPublic turned me on to the RZR and its my favorite. With their platforms, Aiders and sticks already out I think they are one of the best companies. Fixed sticks from them would be amazing.

Interesting, I remember discussing the prototype One stick Carl was using at the 2020 Saddlepalooza. He relayed it was a design he & Garrett worked on. They were having trouble deciding how to attach the platform step.

Also be interesting to see what improvements can be made to the One design - can it get lighter?

I don’t think lighter would be the objective. More foot room, standoffs that bite better, quieter and better stacking system.

More foot room = less packability
Never had an issue with bite, but also haven’t had that with any stick I’ve ever tried.
Yep pins suck hugely.

I would change the attachment rope to a 7/64 daisy chain & the stacking pins.

The one sticks don’t exactly pack great anyway. But I think the magnet stacking arsenal has with their sticks is way better. Especially when you can take the bottom stick in the stack and flip it over so the standoffs face the stack. It mitigates that less packability issue with deeper standoffs.

The gen3 one sticks the standoffs are rounded off. Only had a problem with really hard bark trees them popping back up after stepping off causing potential for a kickout.

I wear a size 13, and have felt foot room is adequate. I guess more foot room is better, but not if the sticks get too bulky.

I haven’t experienced any kick out, but that may be due to the trees I’ve been on. But the last tree I was on was hard bark. I’ve had the sticks stay on the tree after the dynalite rope was disconnected.

The stacking tabs are not too bad once you get used to them. There may be a better design out there for that, but overall, the sticks are great. I do wish the price would come down. Maybe they will as more competition develops.

I really like the innovation we are seeing. We are getting some incredible products to choose from.
