Tethrd Skeletor Sticks

I got a new set of bolts in the the mail over the weekend. I cannot believe these sticks left the factory with the bolt they used. The original bolt was only holding the the block by .171". I don't know what engineer decided this was acceptable. The new bolts are 1/8" longer than the original and are holding by a little over 1/4" of an inch now and have what looks like small about of blue locking paste. No reason they couldn't have just through bolted the Dynaloc. The hexes in the button heads are loose as crap on the hex wrench provided also.

Yea I almost stripped it out. Had to use a 4mm Allen and it worked better…. The directions said tighten no more than 8ft-lbs…. yea right! I was cutting new threads with that screw…lol

Same here the threads had powder coat down inside a 1/4-20 bottom tap done the trick but wow. Probably should have bought american made beast sticks you get what you pay for I guess. These are my first as a new saddle hunter, I hope this is not the normal for the future for me.

After reading through 17 pages and hardly seeing any mention of the known issue of the bottom standoffs bending I’m wondering if this thread is being edited… my understanding is that they won’t ship the better version until you have an issue which seems very risky considering the cost of a probable lawsuit. Not everyone climbing with these will be wearing a saddle.
Unfortunately I did not do my usual research and ordered a set of these during the flash sale. You better believe I’m gonna test the crap out of them and try to get them to fail at ground level. I will not wait til next season to risk injury or be without equipment. It’s disappointing that tethrd are using customers as testing dummies.
Im sure I’ll be chided for this and possibly edited but whatever… that’s what screen shots are for.

nobody is getting edited for Tethrd “bashing”

Good to hear.

I literally got a reply from tethrd shortly after posting here that they are only seeing this issue in “a very small percentage” of the sticks. They will not ship replacement standoffs until you send pics of a warranty issue. However they’ve taken the time to beef up the standoff for a future release of the sticks… seems legit.

I can assure this thread is not being edited, nor will your post. This forum has no ties to any vendor or associated allegiance thereto. The only posts which are deleted are those which are personal attacks in nature or bickering among members. That has nothing to do with supporting any manufacturers over another herein.

I apologize for being presumptuous. I should’ve have let my filter do a better job of editing my first reply. I would edit the language out but that would make the replies seem out of place so I will leave it. Again, sorry for inserting unfounded allegations into my concerns.

There was a video put out about a bent standoff from one of the reviewers around the time the sticks were released. Then Tethrd put out a video on how to “proper set a climbing stick”…

Other than that I haven’t heard of others bending bottom standoffs.

I got a set in the flash sale too and promptly ground some bevels. Haven't replaced the scews yet but probably will when I put stealth strips on. My only gripe (if you can call it that) with these things, which I'm surprised I haven't heard any other complaints about, is having to 'calibrate' the steps. Half of them were too tight for my weak little fingers to get open so I went down through all of them and loosend them to be somewhat equal and at a tightness that I find comfortable and stable. At the price point and given all of the other features I can live with it.

That and the fact that i almost cut off a finger trying to get them apart the first time. Lol

That was Average Jack.

But, didn’t @Krumpf bend his? Thought that was the premise of his first video, that his bent despite setting it as per Tethrd’s instructions.

————-

Hard to say how much field use the sticks have seen on the whole, many got them after hunting season. I guess time will tell if it happens for many, few, none.

I understand concerns given the company changed the standoff. If it’s not an issue, why change the design, right?

Exactly! If it weren’t an issue they wouldn’t have gone through a redesign. My understanding is that they are going to offer them for sell as an upgrade as well. So you can pay more to fix the sticks or bend one and get replacements for free

i actually really like the sticks and want to give them a fair shake. I also would like for them to stay around in case I ever need or want another set.

If wearing a saddle or not you should be tied off to the tree. Every harness should have d loops for a linesman belt just like a saddle. From what I understand is that there were a few bent standoffs and I know of one who said it was user error. If set right there shouldn't be a problem. The standoffs aren't breaking away . If your that worried I would contact Tethrd and asked for a refund or see if they have the heavier standoffs and ask them to ship you 4 for the bottom standoffs. I'm sure they will take care of you one way or the other. I have had mine on a tree numerous times and they have worked flawlessly.

Same. Several sits. Not a hint of an issue.

So I sat down last night to change out the screws on the dynaloc buttons. Everything came off the first stick no problem.
Put on the new washer, stuck the new screw through and started to tighten it down with the wrench they sent.
Three turns and the dynaloc started twisting, like the new screw was bigger than the hole in the dynaloc.
Could not get it done. My hands have messed up tendons in both hands and I just don't have the strength.
I did not try any others. My thought is checking all the bolts with the 7/16 after hunts to keep them tight.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks yall.

The blue stuff on the new bolts is threadlocker. The combination of that and the powder coat in the threads adds a bit of tightness to screwing them in.
