Tethrd Skeletor Sticks

Just unboxed and assembled my Skeleton sticks, first impression is great. I like the angle of the steps, the rope containment system and the cleat for fastening the stick to the tree. The pin system will be good once I use them some, they are very tight currently. They stack very well, they are a little bulkier stacked top to bottom than my Hawks but the length is great. I've just started using a 5 step moveable aider with my 3 step Hawk sticks and can easily get 17 ft with only the moveable aider on the bottom stick and single step aiders on the other two sticks. With these I will get 7 ft with the first stick and aider and then average 4 to 5 ft with the other 3 sticks and aider. This should put me between 19 and 22 ft. I plan on seeing how these go with the aider and hopefully carry only 3 sticks with the aider and still get 17 to 19 ft which is plenty high enough with the current leaf cover.

All of the standoff teeth have been angled on the bottom, am i correct in think this is part of the modification to the standoffs from the original ones to help prevent them bending when seating them on the tree then applying body weight to the stick? Anyone know?

You are correct. That's exactly what it is.

Made my first short climb on the sticks today, I think they are going to work out for me. My only issue I can see so far is the light weight of the cord does cause some issues getting it around a tree. I climbed a bigger tree to see how they would do on a large, hard barked, smoother barked tree. They bit in well, I used the stick to get the cord around the tree. I call it cord due to the size isn't a rope. I used the aider on only the first stick due to the tree would only let me go 3 sticks high without using an aider on the top two sticks. It only took me a minute to establish how to set the stick and tighten the cord to make sure there was no slippage once weighted. Overall I think I am going to really like them. I'll hunt with them next week on my days off work.

Tie a knot in the end or add a ranger bead.

Pro tip (I'm not the pro, I just learnt it from one): Don't pass the rope around the tree, use the stick and hold the rope. Hold it near the button, wrap it around and grab the bottom standoff and then grab the rope as you release at the button. I've been trying to get in to that habit.

I replaced my ropes with new ones from vital ground outdoors that have a little weight buried in the end of the rope. Makes it a breeze to get them around.

Don’t know if I’m just late to game on this but I recently saw a post where someone reversed the buttons on hawk sticks to pack them like this with standoffs facing one another.

there’s holes where the pins sit perfectly to stack this way if you’re looking to do so

Missionary vs The Beast w Two Backs...

So I’m not super limber or tall. Sometimes my mini beast steaks are a pain to climb at only 17”, does anything these are easier to climb step distance wise than beast sticks?

I have used Novix mini sticks at 15".
I just ordered some Out on a Limb Shikar sticks with a 14" step spacing.
Lone Wolf Custom Gear also has 14" sticks.

So, in those that have used these sticks, do you feel they are durable and worth the investment? I have not used them, but am at point where I am able to upgrade. I have not used these, but love how they angled the step, for more comfort/room and the built in strap system and stack ability looks amazing.

I think they are a good option, especially with the revised standoffs. Although if cost isn’t a factor take a look at the One sticks. I’m hard pressed to want to carry the Skeletors after carrying the One sticks.

I understand why they get so much flack on here, but in my opinion these are some of the best things you can get in the $200 range. I think I only paid around $190 on sale. I still have the original standoffs, I ground bevels and I'm only 165 - 170 lbs but they are rock solid, packable, foldable, relatively light, the connection system is great, you can easily add aiders, and they're pretty darn cheap considering all of that. I would love to get some One sticks, and may some day, but being that I totally switched systems in the last year I can't justify that cost at this point. Even with the sticks and platform and rappel rope my pack is so much lighter and easier to tote around than my old climber. They fit my venture 2300 perfectly. 10/10 would buy again.

I bought them even knowing of the stand off issue before hand. I like them so far. I love the extra foot room from the angled steps. I've used them over a dozen times. I always try to seat the stick like they show and I am about 185#. I noticed a bent bottom stand off this week. Took a picture and sent it. New bottom stand offs are on the way.

I have been using them and have no complaints.
They are definitely my favorite sticks and very affordable. I also like the rope attachment and the way they stack.
If you order them I would recommend you get some stik-lok pins thats what holds the together when they are stacked. They sometimes break and need replaced they're only a buck or so per pack. I bought about 10 packs .

I weigh over 220 and I haven't had any problems with them . I also seat them before I climb on them. Like you said great stick for the price. I paid 190 also and I couldn't pass the up.

I am in your boat. I don't like more than a 15" step. I use 4 30" hawk helium's with 15" aiders. Two have double aiders, two have singles. I made them myself out of 1/4"HMWPE for abut $20. They are easy to climb even with heavy bibs. My feet end up 25' off the ground with out too much spacing. I finally found a flaw in them due to their length last weekend when climbing a sycamore. There was a section of the tree were I could not get good contact due to the bumps and ridges on the trunk. Had I a shorter stick it would have been no problem.

I was eyeballing the skeletors, but I would have to carry 5 or maybe 6 of them to me to 25'
