Tethrd Skeletor Sticks

Swap was pretty easy for me. I got the new bolt started, then clamped the DynaLoc button in a vise (lightly, just enough for tension). Then used a ratchet to lock it down. Easier to hold the stick itself in place than the button. Had the whole set swapped out in about 10 mins. Also, the longer bolts gave a lil more clearance since I have Stealth strips on em

I replaced the old dynalok bolt on all four steps in about 10 min... The allen wrench they send with the bolts is soft and rounded off before it tightened down. I also beveled the bottom stand off.. I weigh in at about 220 and have had these on the tree numerous times. I Have jumped all over them trying to bend the stand offs with no luck yet.

This

That I can do. Thank you for the advice.
The bolts that came with the sticks are a 1/4 shorter. So I would replace them with the new ones and the new ones have blue loctite on the threads. I would use blue loctite myself.

Some were easy others were pretty tough. I replaced them all on both sets I have. One set went really easy. The other set was another story.

What did you replace them with? Please keep it simple for us non engineer types lol.

Tethrd might actually be the worst company I’ve ever dealt with. Ordered a set of skeletors seeing that they had corrected the issue with the stand offs… of course they send me the old version which was failing… when I contacted them to get the updated stand offs I was told they will not replace them until they break….

so this this company wants me to climb 20+ft in the air with a product they have changed due to failure. Until it actually fails before they are willing to make this right? Talk about liability…..wow!

First time on this ride?…:smilingimp:

Just saying I’m still happy in love with my beast sticks lol. The Skeletors look pretty cool but man I don’t like all the stuff I’m hearing going wrong with them right out of the gate.

I'll say that when I contacted them they did send replacements with no questions asked. I was told a "very small amount" had that issue with standoffs. Not sure what that really means and I know I'm not getting an answer if I ask.

Not sure this is the same as what you're saying, but to be fair you knew about the issues and still went ahead and purchased.

Either way I still like the sticks and l have no plans to get rid of them as of now. It seems that regardless of what stick is out there I always find complaints when doing research.

Yes and I already want off lol, I couldn’t believe it! Customer service was like well… we have only had a few failures so we can’t remove the product from the selves yet… so just use the sticks you only purchased a few days ago that we have redesigned already. And no we won’t send you the parts to make them safe or reliable hahaha ***

To be fair I knew about the issue, and I also knew they had redesigned the stand offs to correct this issue, yet they are still continuing to ship out a product that they are aware could fail.

I had the same issue as you, except the redesigned standoffs weren't yet a thing when I ordered mine. Figured since the first 1000 preorders had shipped, that any design flaws would have been caught. No such luck. Plus mine arrived with one of the buttons bent....probably from the box being banged around during shipping. They replaced that quickly with no muss/fuss.

When I contacted them, I got the same response: FU.....won't replace 'em till they bend. I had mentioned the liability issue since it's a known design flaw and there is a fair bit of evidence for that, but that didn't seem to faze them initially.

However, I kept bugging them....including after I received the longer Dynaloc bolts....another design flaw they automatically sent out a fix for. Seems there are a number of design flaws with these sticks. Worth noting....I haven't yet tried to climb using these sticks....wasn't comfortable doing that till they flaws were fixed, and besides, I have 2 feet of snow in my yard and it's too cold for practicing my nascent/beginner saddle hunting skills. lol

Received a set of redesigned lower standoffs with thicker walls and beveled bottom edges yesterday!

Seems that squeaky wheel gets results, though it took a lot of squeaking on my part with some "forceful" mentions that I would hold them liable for injury or damage should the standoffs ever bend! :tearsofjoy:

Since they never asked me to keep quiet about receiving the redesigned standoffs, I figure it's fair game to mention it here.

The whole process left a very bad taste. Won't be buying any more Tethrd products any time soon as a result. Also being pretty leery of any other manufacturer's new product releases since this syndrome is not limited to Tethrd, though they are a frequent offender in that regard, using their paid customers as "product testers". I'm kinda eying the OOAL BOB 1-stick, but will wait a few months at least to let other saddle hunters/customers be the guinea pigs on that one.

Fortunately, most of the saddle hunting gear I've purchased since late last year when I decided to try saddle hunting was from large/reputable manufacturers of proven products. Biners and Safeguard from Madrock.. Other biners from Black Diamond and Rock Exotica. Canyon Elite rope. Amsteel (for a custom adjustable bridge). JX3 saddle and accessories. CR RollNLock and Quick Roll Ascender. Lots of this sourced from companies that have supplied the arborist market for a long time, so the companies and products are well proven.

Thanks for the response! just wish I would have seen this one last week before ordering haha! They are really just shooting themselves in the foot, at this point. Who’s going to order a product knowing there’s flaws and it has been redesigned. When it’s 50/50 what set of stand offs you get, and if you end up with the old stand offs you are out of luck, company won’t replace them until you break them, possibly putting yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. I have never really had to deal with a situation like this. I can believe how poorly tethrd has handled it. They clearly value their customers very little, and there’s huge liability issues here as well like you mentioned. These guys are just begging for a law suit

With all due respect, every auto maker that's ever released a new car/feature/whatever is using customers as testers but for a whole lot more $. There's a reason people don't buy Gen 1 anything and it's because there's usually a few problems that arise. I think I paid $202 w/ tax and shipping for the sticks and with some upgrades they have got to be hands down the best stick in the price range. I added bevels, stealth strips, retractable Aiders plus a removable 2 step to make the bottom a 3 step aider. All in I'm still under $250 and these things are pretty stinkin slick in my opinion. They say you get what you pay for and in the world of sticks the next step up is essential twice the cost. I can live with it as long as I don't die from it.

The infinite wisdom is not mine; the insight into a purchasing response is, however, mine.....

Your thanks for the infinite wisdom should go to The Court and Character of King James by Anthony Weldon, 1651:
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Later additions included: "Fool me three times, shame on both of us"

I think there's been enough threads on this particular company that have started, and turned into a crap show, and eventually gotten locked, and I'd prefer this thread not turn into one of those. But, here goes.....

That being said, yes, I agree, it is bologna that you - or anyone else - should have to try a 1/4-20 tap to clean up some threads on a brand new product to replace a bolt due to it's insufficient length.

However, this isn't the first time, and probably won't be the last, where this particular company has failed to deliver a quality product, with defects identified either immediately upon opening the package, or shortly after some field use. (Want some quick examples: the original predator platforms breaking, One stick glue attachments, One stick roll pins, One stick stacking pins, Skeletor orange stacking pins, Skeletor bolt length......I'm sure others could add more to this list.....)

So, using past product releases as a guide, either 'accept' that you will have to put up with the "bologna" that you "gotta do this sh!t" on their products - or let your money do the talking and don't buy from them. Is it total nonsense? Yes, it is. Absolutely, 100%.

Why do they do it? Likely one of three reasons.
1 . They are not a top-notch company. They produce an inferior product, haphazardly thrown together, which is not thoroughly tested. This could be because of a poor product design to start with, material supply chain issues, or production-related problems. (Would you want to buy these types of products, anyhow? Likely not. So, don't buy from them.)
2. They hold an exceptionally high marketing value in being "first-to-market" with a first-mover competitive advantage. This approach is a well known marketing strategy that has proven results and benefits over the course of time. (The threads on this very forum are a prime example!)
3. A combination of #1 and #2 above.

As the almighty @enkriss stated, some of us are Just a little tired of paying to be product testers for these companies

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Again, it is an easy solution. Don't buy from them.
Let’s not forget the cease and desist orders on patent infringement
