The first official Florida Saddle Hunter Meet up

Those woods look pretty cool down there where you guys were going over your gear. Seemed like a "gamey" area but I didn't catch whether or not anybody was hunting too. Like for pigs or anything?

That was the camp area so no hunting......that's what we call an oak hammock...the big mature live oaks partially block the canopy and make natural clearings and with a little help from park rangers and good campers it's easy to maintain.....60yds in any direction is thick nasty stuff u wouldn't want to walk into if u had an alternative way....u won't find any clearings like that out in the hunt woods very often at all...I wish haha

It is a gamey area though. ScottL and I ran off a bob cat and I have seen black bears, deer, hog and turkey in the general area. As weldabeast said though, the camp area is a lot clearer and more open then our actual hunting areas. The shooting lanes are small and it’s green and leafy year round.

For some reason I've never been a big "tropics" guy. Everyone thinks I'm nuts I'd rather live in a more alpine or Appalachian area but your "winter" FL looks very appealing to me I must say.

Yea our early season sucks because it’s so hot but our small game season is finally real hunting weather for us lol
It’s a great time to shoot hogs

Anyone on any hogs in Osceola lately ? Gonna try and hit it one day this week.

They are there but that’s a lot of ground to cover!!! Now that the dogs hunters are out of there, you should be able to find a few

Where are you staying? There are several WMA’s that have less ground to cover and a thick hog population
If I camp it will be in Cobb , still have friends that camp there just not as many anymore. I've been hunting and camping Osceola for over 20 yrs its 45 min. from the house. Ive got a Jennings Turkey Quota this year so I need to get out there and snoop around also.
