The JRB Climbing Method

It may be me but the link brings me to htm code from what appears to be a threaded conversation. Its hard to follow. Do you happen to have a cleaner link?
I see... I will look into it this weekend. I tried to just copy the text out of my Facebook post and paste it in WORD then save as an HTML page. It was opening in my browser yesterday, but now I'm seeing the same thing you are. Stay tuned...

Awesome! I am not the biggest fan of facebook so this is great. I appreciate all of your efforts!

John I see you have the rings on that one. Is that your favorite setup? I see a lot of education in my future and am almost glad deer season is over……I need a break!

I hope you will keep the michocan videos on your playlist.. They are working very well for me and I don't see any reason to go to the jrb ascender hitches. I use 8mm sterling on Samson predator rope and it works nicely.

2x it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I have yet to try the double Michoacan but I’ve heard good stuff about it as well. I was not pleased with the JRB ascender hitch.

I like the rings for a couple reasons:
1. They are really small and the geometry is well suited to passing through a crotch.
2. When i go into bridge mode, i can keep the entire thing a couple inches shorter. I need it short for some applications.

Beaners would offer ease of removal if it wouldn't pass the crotch at all. But if it is that tight, there's no guarantee that it'll pass the friction hitch itself. Crotches are weird... they're all different... yeah u can QUOTE me on that, lol!

@Bowmanmike and @gcr0003 ,
I won't take anything down... but would love to know more about how or why the JRB Ascender didn't work for ya. Just cuz i came to a different conclusion. For example, what rope, what cord, what variant, what application... and did ya try bridge mode or just regular? On 8mm cord, a 523 JRB Ascender in bridge mode feels realky smooth to me. And when I go to larger-diameter ropes, it's so smooth it's Criminal.

I haven't even tried it,but the double mich works so well for me that I don't see any reason to switch. I feel the double mich is so smooth that I can't imagine gaining more with the jrb ascended hitch. Maybe there would be advantages,I won't know until I tried but I am just not motivated to try.

Ok, so your judgment is solid. You have tried meech vs double meech. You would agree double meech is smoother and more breakable for a jrb doubled rope climb. Here's how i would say the JRBAH compares:
In regular mode, it's better than Meech but not quite matching the double. In bridge mode, it matches the double. But IF ya wanna hitch climb with the SAME system, using the jrb hitch climbing method, the JRBAH is much better in several ways.

If hitch climbing is not in your radar screen, there's no reason to move on. Cuz the DM does so well and it's easier to tie. I'm really glad to get this input.

Hitch climbing is on my radar for those occasions where I can't use a throwball. I find a double mich works great for that as well. It doesn't bind yet holds me well.
How does the jrb ascender improve hitch climbing?
I am happy to give my input but bear in mind I just started using your methods last year.

I was using 8.0 mammut and 5500 coppa and 5.5 beal cord. Both would tighten up so much that it made it very difficult to ascend. The beal did little better but both would almost be unbearable half way up the climb.

I was not using the caribiner for handles because they serve no purpose to me. I know this was designed for larger dudes to be able to hold onto, I just don’t know how it would work with even more weight on it. I even came down and retied them several times and still had the same result. They start out nice, but didn’t stay that way for long. I also feel the complexity of the hitch is a downside. If this was designed for new people getting into rope climbing you don’t want something so complex that they could easily get wrong. The Michoacan is so simple, it is difficult to get wrong. I realize the criticism sounds harsh but I’m not trying to be. This was just my experience.

I used them in the same manner as I would the Michoacan. I guess i stopped following along as I don’t know what bridge mode infers.

Thx. Great input. Do u mind sharing if u are a bigger dude or a smaller dude? U can message me directly if you prefer. For example, i weigh about 185 and so its reasonable test for me to rig up that same stuff and strap on some extra weight just to see if I get the same results. In fact, i recently executed a JRB climb while wearing 70lbs.

By the way, i have Robline Coppa 5000, not 5500. Probably a typo?

Coppa 5000 yea just a typo, I ordered it the same time you did when Brocky told us about it.
I also did the mich vs the JRBAH where you have one on one side and one on the other and that made for a heck of a time. Had to use two hands to move it (JRBAH) up once it tightened up.

I would consider myself intermediate level of skill with our niche application. I climbed at least a couple hundred trees over the last 2 years. I have a lot of confidence in my hitch tying and rope climbing skill. Not an expert, but not unfamiliar either.

Well, i am here to help and so if you ever wind up retying a JRBAH, please send a pic, either as a reply or direct message. Because, in my experience, the meech is much more prone to jamming... and so i simply would need a picture to make a better assessment about what might be going on.

We’re you using either of the variants such as the 423 or the original hitch? I had the original basically lock up on me in the back yard but when I used the 423 variant and captured two turns instead of one I haven’t had that happen. Granted, I’m a rookie at this as well as I wasn’t using a carabiner or ring, just the hitch.

For anyone following the method, i will be on a new pair of adjustable bridges ... believe it or not, i never had an adjustable bridge before. But this is going to provide some flexibility, especially in Hitch Climbing.

What's your use case for needing the on demand adjustability of the bridges? I run your redundant bridge in my system for rappelling, but never had a need to adjust either bridge while I'm in the tree
