The PLVOD (Public Land Van Of Death) Build Thread

I grew up in germany and my dad had a 4 wheel syncro vw bus with differential locks front and rear. 90's model. That thing would go anywhere. I think they are pricey still,as a lot of people convert them to camper vans. But they are awesome. Ground clearance was amazing too.

I'm the original owner of this thing and never knew I could do this! I've missed so many hunting opportunities! Look for my saddle gear on the classifieds! Bonus, it folds down to be a table/cup holder.

Wondering if you could rig up one of those gun slings kind of like Coasties have for 50 cals out the side door of the choppers...

Back in the day all the surveyors around here rocked the 4wd Chevy Astro vans. Those things were awesome.

I'm thinking about rigging up hangers to hang 2 hammocks. Would be nice to free up the floor space.

Touché sir! That would free up a lot of space.

I was stationed over there for 4 years. Conn and Ledward barracks in Sweinfurt. They do have some very cool 4x4 vans!

Fellas...2006 KIA SADONA...Ever see a whole van load of koreans stuck in the mud whilst out wheelin?? NOPE...me either. That's cause they dont get stuck...now, focus!

Got the lid for the back built. Doin this on a budget, with as much spare hardware as I have, so it's not pretty.

Some things really can’t be made unseen!

I had a Passat Syncro with Front and back axle differential locks. On mornings with fresh snow, it was always the game of “can I get up that hill?” Always made it up the hill, but landed in the ditch twice down the hill, as other physical laws apply and 4wd is not helping when coming down too fast. Lol

Not much time at lunch today. I did sew up some rod holder straps. Not going anywhere without the rods!

I'm following this closely. Big Bertha hasn't been seriously used for 3 years. I'm seriously considering doing horrible, horrible things to her in the name of redneck engineering.

Is Big Bertha the suburban? She sounds naaaasty...in a hot way.
I actaully found a diagram of the Kia Sadona frame. Gonna start poking holes like a blind man looking for a wall stud to see where there is actual frame and structure instead of just skin. Got me a whole can of flex seal and chewing gum to fix the misses.

Some potential here. The Eno is 112 inches. Need to find a hammock under 96" or a donor that I can shorten up. Plenty of cross anchor points that are solid. Still going to put the cot in, but this is for the 2nd guy if needed.

Yep, that's her. Big Bertha, the big, blue, 'burban. Goes by "my bb" for short. Family wagon turned eldest child's vehicle. Taught me and my two sisters how to drive. Has hauled many deer and witnessed many shenanigans not suitable for a public forum.

Very fun project! I have a couple of practical suggestions to consider for a safety-conscious fella such as yourself.
1. Considering how much gear you'll have in there while you're out on your hunts, I'd suggest heavy window tinting or blinds of some kind.
2. I would find a way to firmly secure everything you haul in the back in a way that would keep it from becoming a projectile in the event of a wreck.
Those aren't "sexy" suggestions by any means, but could be the difference between keeping your gear and/or life vs. losing them.

Excellent suggestions and I will certainly incorporate! The windows are already tented, but I am considering making some "blackout" blinds to keep prying eyes out.
The floor is riddled with seat hooks but will now be tie downs.
