The sun giving you away

I have a theory. Based on all my hours of scientific research.....
It's not about the camo pattern, it's about the texture. Lots of guys swear by the leafy suits. I agree. I have a set of camo that is fleece like on the exterior. It has a "softer" look to it. My theory is it absorbs some of the reflection or re directs it so it's not so bright. That deer can pick up on the reflection of some kinda light. That pimp hoody @Nutterbuster is rocking in the photo looks sweet to me. Texture look. Not flat. It is one thing I kinda hate about Scentlok. A lot of the stuff looks like good camo pattern, but I feel with some sun beams hitting you, I stand out big time. You can pick a hunter out easily in a tree if the sun is on them with that kinda camo. Your eyes dart to it.
My two cents.

The Revenant Pro series has greater nap, not as much as say the og EVII Sitka Fanatic, but it's not a tight weave and a good MI coat imo.

Here u go Mr @Plebe ......

What has the sun reflected off of that has either given ur position away to critters or other hunters or has given away the position of another hunter to u? Binos? Gun barrels? Broadheads? Ur glasses?

Didn't get the biggest buck I've ever seen in the woods due to the Sun, I think.

He was walking right in front of my shadow but couldn't see me. I move and my shadow moves in front of him. He bolted immediately and stood and stared at the ground where the shadow was.

Just typing that makes me sick to remember......he was a beautiful, typical 10 point with long, thick tines and would have easily been my first Pope and Young......and I got on him with no bait or trail cams.....just looked at a map, found a great rut pinch point and saw him within 2 hours of first sit

I think the reflection along with the unnatural movement is what gets people busted. Deer live with reflective objects and probably know what reflects.
The lazer beam coming off the opposite mountain side from the next hunting YouTuber's Pit Vipers probably will send off a red flag to the critters.

"Visual deterrents that move may be more effective at deterring deer, as deer readily detect and react to movement. Helium-filled “Scare-eye" or Mylar balloons, flagging and Mylar tape that move when the wind blows, have also been used to deter deer damage. Mylar is a shiny plastic material that reflects light and makes noise when the wind blows across it. It can be hung from stakes or plants like streamers to scare deer. Mylar tape twisted into a spiral, and suspended between posts, makes a buzzing sound when the wind blows over it, which can help deter deer."

.

Can't speak to the effectiveness on deer, but have neighbors who swear by it for warding off birds

I've noticed a huge difference sitting with a naked blued rifle opposed to putting a gun sock on it.

The stuff I hunt was pretty thick, so deer were well within 30yds before you could see them. Bringing the rifle up for the shot without being detected is pretty easy with the bluing covered.

I've actually done a little playing around with it....I have purposely reflected the sun off my watch face at different critters....however I haven't tested on deer yet.

The quickest and harshest reaction was from a bobcat and 2nd was turkeys. They are outta there fast. Squirrels could care less and hogs don't give AF. Racoon didn't run but slunk away after repeated attempts to shine it in the eyes. Wading and song birds don't react but birds of prey do. Armadillos don't care and I pretty sure that's all I've tried
Cool! I am curious to hear what happens when you try this on deer.

I’ve wondered the same thing for a long time and boy do I have a story, I reflected the sun from my face paint mirror once to see how a young ish doe would react, she got down and started playing with it like a cat!! Not as vigorously as a cat but she saw it, kind of looked at it for a sec then followed it for a few steps and was playful to it trying to wonder what it was, when she turned in such a way where I guess the glint caught her eye she immediately picked me out and trotted off.

As far as reflective clothing I have 100% been picked out of a tree because of it. Absolutely zero movement on a first time tree. Mature does both times. From 70+ yards with the wind in my favor. Both times the sun was setting and my soft shell clothing was the equivalent of a road sign in the headlights of an 18 wheeler.

I have switched to old leafy camo in a cotton blend and never had that problem again.
