Thoughts on Broadside Stands climbing platform???

It looks like they’ve switched it to a rubber wrapped cable and dropped the pricepoint…. I’m intrigued for sure. I’d like to try it out…. Might end up with one of these…

Looks like an extra $85 off and it comes in at $300. That’s really reasonable based on other platforms and stick combos…

On second look, I don’t hate it. First glance I thought giving up straight sides is a big loss to gain those red sides. But I could see purple being used for leaning or sitting, green for standing. Blue and yellow give different angles. Stay away from the red or you might go for a ride. I’d have to play around with it. I still don’t like the climbing method I saw with this.

Its heat shrink covered Amsteel with like piano wire jammed down the middle. Not the best idea IMO….

Also… climbing while having to move your cable attachment up the back of the tree at the same time with a leash seems like misery.

Then the cam over when you get to height has no leveling adjustment or stop. You have to have that Amsteel birds nest attached to keep the platform level and in place.

Needs significant improvements.

The shape is the most appealing part to me lol. Didn't XOP make a platform that's an X shape too?

Maybe I’m spoiled with how well some of the new production platforms bite the tree & handle side loading. Plus I’m at the top end of all of these weight ratings so always a bit skeptical about a lot of load out on that tip isolated like that versus spread over the shape. Could be fine was just wondering why, besides cool factor……

cool factor has me paying attention. There’s potential here. But with all the messing around at the ground then the whole way up, I’m at 15ft by the time this thing can get to the top of my first stick before any moves. After that it seems interesting but I didn’t realize there is no stop on the platform, and the dyneema needs tension to keep it from flipping down.

I think it's just for foot positions and/or pushing off. I like my x- wing too, so maybe I'm just an oddball all around.

The more I keep coming back to this thread the more this keeps growing on me. I don't think it's perfect but, I think its a better design than the other climbing platform that came out this year. I like the heat shrinked amsteel over a metal band that doesn't pack well and is more noisy.

This would work on most of the trees I climb but, then what do I do when it won't?

Not sold on it yet but, if you guys keep bumping this thread I might be by Xmas time......
