Thoughts on Broadside Stands climbing platform???

I wonder if there was a way to have an adjustable cable aider (might be impossible) instead of the adjustable amsteel. Might alleviate the rope dragging on the bark.

Maybe something like the cable the X-stand climbers had? While I like the idea of having rope, the lack of stiffness seems like it would be a headache on rough bark. Maybe a small wire core rope, like a scaled down wire core flip line. Stiffer, quiet, friction hitch friendly.

Same thought I had. Like this idea, can’t wait for it to get better

I just watched the climbing video (which was really well done). My first thoughts on the platform itself is that it looks cool, but I don’t understand the X Shape. I could see the legs of the X being used to kick off and around the tree but I don’t see that as feasible while using it in “climber mode” since the rope is in the way. The X shape gives away some structural strength that seems pointless to me.

As for the climbing system I think 4 safety pins will be noisy. They are clearly cumbersome to hood up the system. I think there could be a more elegant solution for attaching the climber rope. Now for the climber assist rope I think that ingenious. I’m not convinced it would work on tree with any kind of size but the simplicity of the solution is what’s cool to me. The way he is utilizing the assist rope I could see people transforming any platform they own into a “climbing platform” of sorts.

So like many new saddlehunting gear releases, it doesn’t solve any problems I currently have but it’s awesome to see. Who is going to be the first to buy one?
Attach it with soft shackles I would think. That’s a very strong amsteel attachment method
With a saddle that is never an issue though. With a platform, a tether with a footloop, a stick, a climbing platform it doesn’t matter the process is ultimately the same. Hang from the saddle, unhook the climbing method, reconnect above the series of limbs and get around them. I do agree though if it’s a ton of limbs then a climber would never be the most efficient method, but I stand by bypassing a few limbs isn’t bad at all.
i don’t see how you could easily unhook this and move it around limbs. Especially while hanging

that was before I saw the video. I agree.

I had the same idea. I actually in the process to trying to create my own climber (not for commercial sale, just DIY project) using the parts of the X-stand and a LWCG Ambush.

Watched the video and thought exactly the same. Piece of 11m static rope for strap. Create a big soft shackle that attaches to the rope with prusik knot and use the same attachment on both sides. Some TPU gear straps for foot loops maybe.

Hmmmm....interesting...gears turning.

3/16 Amsteel whoopie sling around the tree would give easy adjustment. A lot of platforms/stands have attachment points

I turned several of mine into footstep climbers, and because of being tethered in gravity forces your feet to somewhere inside the tree. Add the effort of dragging the rope or cord over the tree bark and concentration to keep it from catching on something, then whe you finally reach the height of your step its natural to want to relax and let your feet down, which makes a thud. You can be careful but it takes alot of concentration on all of the aspects.
Interesting

I’m very happy to see someone introducing a climber/platform option, but this first offering seems to have a lot going on, and some things could be simplified. I have spent four years using the LWHC with the bolt mod. The LWHC or something similar, with just a little tweaking from the manufacture would be ideal. No need to reinvent the wheel.

I think the flip up post to anchor to the tree once at hunting height on the LWHC would make for a decent setup. I've seen a few guys that have fabricated that. When I had used the hand climber I would secure it with a ratchet strap before I hunted, but I also always add a ring of steps. So I was securing it to the tree just below the platform & then adding another strap with steps above it.... I would've stuck with it a bit more if I could've found a way to secure it above the platform & also have my steps on that strap, because honestly instead of using 2 straps I usually was just carrying a few screw in steps as my ROS

This is exactly what I am doing with mine currently. I’m securing the platform by hanging a 32 ounce Nalgene off the end of it. It doesn’t require much weight, hanging off the edge to keep it from kicking loose. Then, I am adding a Cranford screw in step at the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock position so that I can maneuver completely around the tree. A flip up post to secure it to the tree, and the addition of a foot peg coming off both corners closest to the tree would be perfect.

This is kinda cool, but fiddly & wonder about kicking out as you set the foot straps…. Then at that price it’s almost 1/2 the new Lwcg climber. Wouldn’t that bottom be a better option?

It looks very close to the old saddle climber that Treesuit had years ago. They used a cable that went around the tree .
