Traditional bow kills 2022/2023 season.

Good way to kick things off. Give us poor souls who are anxiously awaiting season the hunt story. We're having to live vicariously through you lucky few who are hunting. What poundage bow, what broadhead, how far was the shot, etc.? Thanks.

Congrats, let’s get some specs. Arrow weight, poundage, draw length? That doesn’t look like a tremendous amount of penetration. Obviously enough to get the job done.
The arrow was all the way in the opposite shoulder! I pulled it back out it locked the deer up and never went anywhere!! Shot at 12 yards from 18ft up. I'm using a 700 gr arrow with EFOC 28inch shift 55lb slick stick longbow. 3to1 / 1 1/8 Grizzly Bruin 125 single edge with 200gr insert.

From the angle it is stuck in I would have bet it stopped in the offside shoulder. Thanks for the specifics.

Well that is interesting. Wonder if it was the humerus. I think on the whole as an archery community we would be better served not using the term shoulder. If you hit the scapula and didn’t pop out the other side I’d personally be disappointed with the results. If you hit humerus and broke it, but didn’t exit I’d still personally be a little bummed but not shocked. Sorry to get all critical on your victory post. A genuine congrats. I just think these are learning opportunities.

This could be a reality check on the realistic expectations of trad gear and to some degree heavy setups.

I’m pretty sure The Push Archery did a high speed camera study with Trad Labs and showed that the recovery time was 3-5 feet. The amplitude of the oscillations had calmed to less than 1” within that time.

You can also watch this video from Surewood Shafts showing a Doug Fir arrow recovering within 3-5 feet of a glancing blow.

Our tune is probably perfect when we shoot in the backyard. Under pressure, and we are likely imparting some undesirable inputs that change the tune. The arrow still is recovering quickly, but the energy loss required is where I believe we affect the penetration.
