Traditional Kills

Makes sense that they took it down since I bought it, lol

I have been bowhunting for 37 years. A couple season ago I switched because there wasn't any thing new to it. To do the trad thing right you really need to rely on more basic skills. Tuning your bow, perfecting form, and figuring out how to troubleshoot a bad shot. I am much more annal with my gear now then when I shot compound, I have to be, there is no gadgets to take advantage of. Its all me and my form once I get the bow/arrow tuned. I'm learning things i should have known back in the early 80s when I started. Arrow spineing, tuning, how to sharpen broadhead, arrow building, ect. Hunting is different as well, I can't shoot in a 60 yard radius any more, it needs to be close.
I have had a lot of friends say, what if a Booner walks by at 30 yards? I reply, so what I beat him, I believe if I put him inside of 30, I beat him. The trad thing has really made hunting much more satisfying to me. I shot the littlest buck 2 seasons ago that I have shot in 2 decades with my long bow, and I was as proud of him as any of my wall hangers. Last year was the first year in 28 years I didn't kill a buck, so what, I made a great shot on a big doe. Make that change and stick to it until you are successful.

We'll start with these.

Samick Sage 68 inch Longbow 50lbs@28" (draw ~28.5"), Big Jim Quiver, TenPoint String, Fred E. Tab, Victory Trad's 450's (stock 31.25", 80 grain insert, 125 grain tip). Fall be be my first year hunting with trad, and a saddle - with a little (maybe a lot) of luck, I'll put one down. Even an "eat'r in the freez'r will be a tropy to me. Oh, 5 inch left wing helicals with as much helical as I could get with the Bitz. Still have two bare shafts I tuned with, thinking of trying four 4-inch with straight clamp.

I was going to put this in the "unsuccessful" thread just because of how it put me out of the game for awhile. Nevertheless, I found it during turkey season. I had to have walked by it half a dozen times.

First time on a "target" buck, got my shot, and missed it by an inch. This one hurt. Took some time to get the confidence back.

Since having rotator cuff surgery on August 22nd, I’ve been doing everything the docs have requested plus getting acupuncture. Well last week after physical therapy, I decided to try drawing 30#-40# with no issues, I went out and did a bolt and ROS preset, set up at about 14 feet that was near a white oak that had good sign. On Friday, 10/11/19 it paid off with my first saddle harvest with the bow that I took my first trad deer with many years ago.

Wow Chenry you recovered quick! Great job! I shot my recurve last weekend for the first time in a year....Did ok and hope to use it some this season also....Keeping my number of practice arrows to a minimum cause I don't want to mess up the shoulder again...Very happy to hear you were able to make it back in the woods so quick!

It only takes 1 :) that's what I tell myself after my shoulder gets un happy after a dozen or so. If my first 3 shots are solid it's all good! That being said, the sore shoulder kills the confidence for me....

Wow that’s freakin awesome. I had torn rotator cuff and bicep Aug 2 there’s literally no way I could pull a bow back. At least I don’t think so. I need a string to find out I guess.

Good job fella's.

Shot this one this past Friday from my saddle on Fl public land swamp. Posted it on my intro, but probably more appropriate here. Almost had doe Sunday morning from the same tree too, but she never presented a decent shot.
