What bothered u on your last saddle sit

Anyone got a good link for a decent grapple hook? I'm setup to rappel but didn't want to have to climb back up with one sticking just for my release. I was glad to have my backup in my pack. Although the one I dropped is my better release.

Gave some people a hard time for carrying one in another thread, I’d never dropped anything it would’ve helped me with. Bought one and threw it in my pack anyway. Used it on the second sit of the year.
I've probably hunted from a saddle of some sorts for 40 yrs. and not needed a fish hook but it was sure handy to not climb back down after all set up and a hook weighs almost nothing in my pack...

On a serious note, I've now chamfered all my steps where the aider goes and all my cleat thingies (300 then 600 grit). If you are on the fence, I'd just do it. I didn't want to mar these up because they are so expensive and look so awesome right out of the package. But the chamfering increases their usefulness and if you are careful it just makes them look a bit antiqued like a pair of favorite blue jeans or something.
I've just come to accept almost everything I buy that's metal needs some chamfering. I used to complain about lwcg when my .5 came with razer blade edges. My beast stand needed serious chamfering and so did the recent predator platform I just bought. Is what it is and once done it's done forever

I understand, mu LWCG single step sticks needed a little touch up.
Not really a big deal.

I have the big black monstrosity grapple ewo sells. It to bulky, to heavy, but it's pretty nice I guess. Better than not having 1. I plan to replace it eventually with something that has a smaller footprint. My couple diy attempt were failures. My friend bought the smaller silver 1 from ewo and it's a better option...kinda pricey so haven't been real gung ho.

I like to keep mine on my saddle and have done so up to my most recent hunt. The way I pack my platform interfered with the little storage pouch I kept the grapple in. I've been putting up with it since I bought it but I removed it off my saddle temporarily until I can figure out a better way to keep it on there...like I said, that black 1 they sell a little too bulky. I moved it into the large storage area on my hunt vest for now but it does me not good there if I drop the vest.... That bothers me.

Have you see this one.

Well, I climbed another tree Friday evening. I seem to be drawn to "less than perfect trees". Tree wasn't smooth, had bulges every couple feet - made attaching the sticks a real pain. Also had a smaller tree right next to it, that was a stupid choice. Got up and set my platform, pulled out my gear strap and watched my bow hanger tumble to the ground.

Went ahead and got everything set, then went down and grabbed it, pulled up my xbow, and surveyed the situation. Realized I was way closer to a main trail than I wanted to be.

Enjoyed the sit, need to work on adjusting things to be more comfortable, but it worked. Deer came in about ten minutes before dark and I smacked one right between the shoulders at 15 yards. Didn't have to look for that one, lol. Bolt went in on top, almost exited through the chest cavity. Literally went through the spine.

Be careful of trees with bulges....wow, didn't intend that to be a double entendre but here we are.....anyways, if it is a beech tree then it is likely indicative of beech bark disease which induces a thing called "beech snap" where living and otherwise healthy-looking trees just break without notice. It is common in some high elevation spots in WV and that with the higher winds means you should always carry a chain saw and tow strap. I've been stuck twice in the past several years.

I climbed one of these, googled it, and then realized I was in a potential "snapper" all day.

I also do not climb near enough to one that a wind could snap it onto me. If hunters and elevated hunting was more common in the highlands of WV, then I suspect we'd hear about more injuries due to this. I now notice them laying over quite a bit.

As mentioned, I'm all over the place with my packs. One day one will suit better, then I'll change to a different one. It's driving me crazy. They all work, but I feel like I'm looking for something I don't have.
