What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

Went out and shot six arrows. Cost me about $30. Robin hooded a good hunting arrow.
One of the first times I got my bow out this summer I passed through my old Black Hole target and got a "rapid spontaneous disassembly" on the far side - never found the fletched end, but I've got the nock and the front 2/3 or so. Replaced that target, continued sighting in my slider, robin-hooded one of my old hunting arrows. Retired the whole lot and replaced with Beman White Box from Dunham's. I've already lost one (forgot to reset my slider) and I don't care because they're cheaper than the 'good stuff'.

Did further experimentation with a releasable platform strap so I can keep ascending instead of having to descend to retrieve it.

I was talking to my insurance agent about this. If I build it a certain way, it's an insurable structure. If I put it on skids, it's not. Contemplating small-ish smokehouse on a pallet.
I went through that with goat shelters we built when I lived on the farm down here. I made the bottoms into a sled shape with 3/4 rod drilled into each so that it was “mobile”. Just like that I didn’t need a permit to build them lol

Switched to a 3 pin, arrows are just too slow for a single pin. It actually lines up perfect with my peep and the scope size so I'm really liking it! Also switched to a keeton, I think I'm liking that pretty good too, a lot more hand movements though

Put lighted nocks on at the recommendation on some of the folks here, put quite a few arrows down range, more practice climbs, stared at the Ropeman some more. I read the thread/s and am sure it’s a more convenient solution and yeah it’s only $45 but I just keep seeming to add to my setup by it’s only x dollars at a time. Lol

Pulled camera cards, practiced Ddrt climb with a buddy who is trying saddle hunting this year for first time. When we got done he just kept saying man I’m excited about this. Hard to believe opening day is around the corner in Ky.

Checked cameras this weekend. Seems like the bucks in my area have started splitting up and ranging out. All the smaller bucks I had on camera have disappeared, only have the bigger buck still on cam. Scouted some spots to set up blinds, purchased another blind. set up blinds out back behind house to get as much human scent off them as possible before they get set out. Blinds will go out next weekend and the area wont be touched again till opening morning.

Shot 15 arrows and then did a practice climb and sit, trying to be as quiet as I could. Temps in the 80s, so there was no way I was climbing without sweating. Before the wife left around 3pm she told me there'd be a storm coming through tonight. I was up in the tree for about 30 minutes when I heard some rumbling in the distance and the whoosh of wind...it was good test of how quickly and safely I could get out of the tree in an emergency. Not a situation I would recommend though! I made it back inside right as the wind picked up and it started pouring.

I did leave my rope and platform in the tree since I didn't have time to get them down.

Sewed one Ultimaider Pack and Play into the pouch style, went out and retrieved a cam, set up 2 cams, and scouted and found what looks like it might be a sweet spot for the October youth hunt for my daughter.

Oh, and I asked for private land access, got denied on one and asked to stop over another day for another (they were busy, but sounds like it might happen!).

Tied and climbed on both a left and right JRB ascender hitch Drt.. definitely works smoother than a Blake’s and by leaving enough rope I was able to get plenty of lift

Climbed to practice shooting from a saddle. Only shot 5 but they were pretty close so I'm happy! Decided 3 sticks 2 - 3 too many. I'm going to try an aider on the x-wing. Had deer come in while i was carelessly packing up, covered in deet because i was near the road/truck just trying to shoot. Good practice day I'd sayIMG_20220830_195449_01.jpg

For the first time in several years I feel ready for the season to start. I’ve tuned arrows, shot, adjusted, shot some more, retuned, Broadhead tuned and shot again. I’ve got my bag situation lined out, cameras hung, saddle ready, and exercised a bunch. At this very moment I’m petting an annoy cat cause it’s raining out and I can’t go shoot, or hunt doves. Wait, maybe I should have put that in the no shame thread!
