What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

Yesterday I finished my trail camera rounds. I wanted to check them all to see that they were running appropriately and have full batteries before velvet comes off and fall movement begins. Now begins the soak; most of them will be left alone for the whole season, unless there’s extenuating circumstances.

Since buying a house last spring, I have no trees with branches I can string a deer up from in order to skin and quarter so I decided to build something. Knowing thee wife would skin me if I built something permanent to the deck I took some scrap wood, bought an eye bolt rated at 1200 lbs, and built this. Straps to the deck post using a left over Bullman ratchet strap. it held my 250 lbs so I think I’m good for the Tennessee deer. One more chore off of my prep list.

Spent an hour back in the woods practicing climbing while also working on dialing in the 2 tether climbing. Also doing a bunch fo fine-tuning on the system. Also switched my lineman’s rope from 9mm HTP to 8mm Res-tech. Man is that stuff smaller.

And best of all, got in my CGM Cobra saddle yesterday so today was the break in and adjust day. Man do I love that thing. It is so much more comfortable for me than what I was running.

Yes, I was wondering what you were "running" before your new Cobra. Oh, I think I get it now. This new one is larger than your previous Cobra.

My apologies, I misunderstood your questions. The saddle I was running was made by an individual on the forum but I have forgotten his name. It’s a good saddle, but with me being my size it gets a bit uncomfortable after a while. It would be great for someone around the 200 or less size.

Did some scouting yesterday, hung a camera, and picked a few milkweed pods. One more week and I’ll be in a tree.

Currently doing the youth hunt/scouting. Ive never seen so many mosquitoes in my life. Ive been to the U.P. many many times in the summer and never seen them this bad. Shame on Lapeer county MI for voting down spraying. Utterly ridiculous. Deer wont sit for more than a few minutes before running to new parts of bean fields. Feel for the kid Im with cuz lack of deer activity due to skeeters.
There was a time last night & this a.m. where you could hear the swarm. Im afraid I wont be hunting this property til a frost.

Where are you at that deer are still in velvet?

As of today I can’t say that bucks are still in velvet here in southern New England. But back at the end august the only deer I’d seen hard horned was a spike. I won’t have a clear picture for quite some time: i prefer to let my cameras soak for quite a long time.

Scouting,New paricord loop, and feed the animals.
Had to head home to let my blood levels recover

Shot my bow for the first time since I injured my left thumb in July. Probably should wait a bit before I shoot it again, the grip torques my thumb right on my torn ligament. That's OK, it's why I bought a crossbow. Just need to determine if it likes 200gr or 300gr broadheads best.

I’ve got most of the pods I collected dried so I sewed up a quick little milkweed pouch from some scraps of different things I had around and a hook. Not sure it’ll be my primary way to carry it but was worth the experiment time. Gave me a chance to show the kids how milkweed works too so little added bonus for them to see why I wanted it.

Kinda related to our sport....I quit Copenhagen and beer and started back at the gym. Not quite a week in, I haven't shot many arrows. Body is sore as I'm pushing pretty hard. Increased my protein intake, actually food in general. I'm up 5# already.
I say I "quit" drinking but did have a couple yesterday as a reward.
