Who would you rather hunt with?? Infalt or Eberhart? Just curious!

The good news is we don’t have to choose. There’s so much content out there; we get to hear and see so much of how they approach hunting, what they have learned and things they think we should know. And frankly id rather spend daylight hours in the woods, watching and learning on my own. What has made both of these guys extremely successful is that they developed their own styles and techniques based on lots of experience. So, I’d rather save my time and money and just hunt more.

Everyone once again thanks for the responses. So now that we have gotten responses and if you looked at the post at #46 in the thread. You will realize this wasn’t really a question of hunting with one or the other but more of a way to show that we all have styles of hunting and just because you don’t like the other style doesn’t mean you can’t learn from the other styles. I had picked Infalt which is probably more my style of hunting. But it doesn’t mean you can’t learn from the opposite style “ Eberhart”. Good luck hunting this season and enjoy! Maybe we’ll all learn something new!?

I've learned from both, and have taken different things from them, but if I had to choose it'd probably be Dan.

Dan and John are very similar hunters in a lot of ways. They both work very hard at what they do. They also both have excellent woodsmanship. They pay attention in the woods and understand deer behavior. They both take things to extremes. They have found success using different tactics. I have talked to John several times on the phone. He is very personable and laid back. He doesn't come off the same way he does on Podcasts etc. He believes in his methods and truly wants to help people become better hunters. He is the reason I became saddle hunter in the 1st place. I figured that anyone who could talk the talk and then actually walk the walk in a state like Michigan must be onto something.. Since I've applied his tactics, I've been seeing AND killing more bucks and bigger bucks than I ever have. The scent Lok and Tethrd saddle sponsorships are only fairly recent. He's been using them for years without any affiliation. He truly believes in the products. Now he has turned his success into a way to provide income so I can't blame him. I challenge anyone to show me a "celebrity" hunter who isn't doing the same. However I can see how some people would be turned off by his bluntness. I think he's just telling it like it is and is basically saying his record speaks for itself. He has the numbers and a wall FULL of giants to back it up. There's a little brashness about him but once you get by that and you apply some of his methods I think people will find they will become better hunters. Dan I have not talked to. I'm sure he is much like John in that he believes in his methods and wants to help people become better hunters. He is obviously is a very good hunter. He is very aggressive and does what it takes to put big bucks on the wall. However I think if Dan lived in Michigan instead of Wisconsin that his wall wouldn't be nearly as full. With that said, I would love to spend a week in the woods with either of them. If I had to choose only one it would be John but only by the slightest margin. A guy could learn a lot from either of them.

What makes you think Dan would't be as successful in MI as John?

Wisconsin and Michigan are vastly different states to bowhunt in. Big buck density's are much higher in Wisconsin. Bowhunter density's are much lower. IMHO that makes Dan's aggressive tactics ideal. In such a highly pressured state as MI, IMHO aggressives tactic would be less effective. I'm not saying they wouldn't work. just not as well.

That's a good explanation.

I haven't hunted WI, so I don't have a frame of reference, personally, there. Though, I know some folks who get giants every year on private. I have hunted MI public, and I thought the hunting was pretty good and certainly had my chances at a couple of trophy class deer.

Of course it's impossible to say who would outperform whom, John or Dan. It's certainly home court advantage for John.

But, from what I've seen of Dan, two of his top traits are 1. being adaptable and 2. putting great time and effort into finding trophy animals. I'd say 3rd is fearlessness. I can see those paying dividends in MI.

John's approach has, as we know, proven itself in MI.

Maybe they’d be willing to take an out of state hunt challenge together, somewhere unfamiliar to both of them.

The 3 traits you speak of are exactly why I would definitely like to hunt w/ the man. I think anyone that is successful on big bucks has the same traits. He definitely would succeed in MI or anywhere else for that matter. As you said, I would give home court advantage to John in MI or any state that is highly pressured. I think his tactics are better suited for that situation. I think the reverse is true as well. Dan has the advantage in WI. Especially in hill country or the big woods. I myself would love to hunt with him in hill country and see how he approaches it. I have little experience in that terrain. The Midwest or out west it's a toss up. Both approaches will have success. I know John has had a lot of success in the midwest. I pretty sure sure Dan has to but he may not have spent as much time in the Midwest as John. The only reason I give John the slight nod is that his tactics are ideal for the property that I hunt on. Aggressiveness has it's place on my property but there's is a time and situation for it. For the most part,(On my property) a stealthy patient scent free approach pays off big dividends. The deer never know they are being hunted and I can hunt a setup multiple times without killing the area.

This should happen. Maybe the forum can convince THP to host and film. Are any of the THP guys forum members?
THP seemed to struggle when they came here to hunt turkey last year. I know every state has different animal habits and habitat. I know it would be hard for me in the freezing weather… but Florida deer hunting is not for the feint of heart.

I just realized I never really made a choice of what style of hunting I identify with more. I'd have to say I'm a bit schizo of a person that identifies with both. I don't think its realistic to think you can completely disregard the wind. I also don't think you can always identify a specific buck bed and get within 100 yards of him and take him. I like both of their approaches. I find using Dan's methodologies more helpful in early and late season and John's more relevant during the pre-rut and rut.

That would be the most boring THP episode ever.....

Am I the only 1 who thinks thier little "southern draw" accent is getting old real fast.....love the show but man that starting to irk me
