I tried the thigh loop several times in the past week. I ended up making a fleece loop that was very comfortable. While it does put pressure on your non footloop leg to stabilize you and hold you closer to the tree while moving the footloop tether up, I have found the same can be accomplished by simply putting your foot against the tree. I did not find that it made climbing easier. You’re essentially holding all of your weight on one side of your body (right or left thigh). It takes some time to get use to and I didn’t love it. It works but it isn’t enough of a benefit to get me to change what I’m currently doing.
The tendency is always to add more junk to your system. 2TC shines to me when it has little to no metal, little to no bulk, and little to no extra pieces. 2 tethers, 3 prussics, one footloop. I love being able to throw everything into my bag quickly and it’s ready to rock the next time I need it. I enjoy trying new stuff but I keep coming back to the simplicity of two tethers and a footloop.
I’m anxiously waiting for the next breakthrough in 2TC technology though!
