Why don't yall 2TC?

Some rainy 2tc advice from this morning.

1. Be sure your friction hitches work flawlessly while being wet, mine got very tight and made repositioning them as I climbed very difficult, making my moves very inefficient

2. Leg wrapping a wet tree is not fun

Lol....none of it looks fun to me.

Thanks! You’re probably right about the tree. Maybe I just need to attach a little piece of bungee or a castration band too the foot loop to keep my foot in so I don’t worry about dropping the foot tether down the tree.
Wouldn't hurt but I have never had the slightest indication that my foot loop wanted to fall down the tree. Yesterday evening i was on a very hard barked, smooth tree that sort of spiral corkscrewed. It was not a fun tree to climb since the hard bark along with where gravity was trying to take me made it tougher than usual. Most trees I have to climb have bark that varies from powdery to hard to flaky. There are not a lot of really slick barked trees around here.

Just climb a hackberry, your tether wont fall down the tree very easily on them. It wont fall up the tree very easily either. ;)

Sounds like you just picked a hard tree to start out on. Try it out and a regular tree. I made the amsteel loop like you are talking about and it works great. I made two sets actually. Both use the amsteel loop for the foot tether. One used Canyon C-IV and the other HTP static. I got the ropes from Eastern Woods Outdoors.

I couldn't find the video he was talking about in the playlist, do you have a link for how you made your amsteel foot loop? I think I'm going to give this a try with my hand ascender and that footloop on a spare tether before I invest, but it seems like another good option.

I tried to find the how too video but it seems there is just the one video on there now. Maybe my YoutubeFu is off today. Maybe he took them down?

That’s the one I used too but didn’t have any tubular webbing to put around the end loop. Seems like that shouldn’t really be necessary right?
I used it because I had the webbing that came on the amsteel I bought. I think it is just there to cut down on wear from the bark.

Haven't tested it yet but I just thought that adding a piece of paracord with loops on both ends could help. Use the loops to link your top and bottom tethers together and it may help in two ways... ensures your bottom tether doesn't ever fall down the tree and ensures you have a steady pace up the tree by limiting your advances to a predetermined length.

2TC again for this mornings hunt. I am going to pack my WE Stepps away for the rest of the season most likely. This basically eliminates 3 lbs. With the amount of scouting we are having to do to find fresh sign it’s a no brainer.

2TC down is really simple as well and I might ditch the rappel rope here soon as well. Not sure yet

2tc down is easier for me than on the way up. You have gravity helping you with the ropes. The key is just keeping the movements the same as on the way up. The tendency for me is to make bigger moves on the way down for some reason if I'm not watching it. Too far down and you can't take slack out of the top tether and then you have to go back up a couple of inches and repeat. It's best to take your time and it ends up being smoother and faster.

Kind of like training wheels, I like it I think I just need to try it on a pine tree like the ones I typically hunt. I was looking at that palm again today and realized it actually gets fatter as you go up.

Well because I’m a glutton for punishment and learn lessons the hard way I’m gonna try this again. Bought my third 2tc kit from Jerry (yes, I sold the other two) but this time I’m gonna run a quick link on the foot loop line. I also like the cord in the new kit that goes around the foot loop to keep it secured to your foot. I feel like that might help a bit

Work travel and kid playoff games wrecking my season, but I’m enjoying Srt from 2 presets and 2TC this season the 6 times I’ve gotten out. I could never ditch the rappel rope. Not having a fast way down, rappel or sticks, scares me for some odd reason. I am mostly climbing with the rappel line, transitioning to a dedicated 3rd tether to hunt , hanging my pack off my rappel line biner, and using the Genesys tether handles/hooks for my bow and quiver. (Rappel line to pull up bow, then I stash the rope). CGM footloop allows me to go up slow and quiet. I’m taking 15 minutes including ROS set, lots of breaks to avoid overheat. Pretty happy with this, but not happy with lack of time. Might need to chase them in the cold this year.

Yep, nothing beats the comfort of the cgm footloops! I've got 2 now!

Well that didn't last long :tonguewink:

The 2TC change over this season is helping my hunting. There is no way I would have trudged that set of 4 lone wolf sticks I was carrying last season off in the thicket I crossed today, I scouted until 9 am, found hot sign past a camera I put out a while back near the only scrape I saw opened up today. I have had that camera out since Oct 26th. Checked the card and had a decent buck on there at 4:45 yesterday. I sat from 9 to 5:30 (dark) today in the Recon.

8 and a half hour sit. I didn't intend to do an all-day sit but that's how it worked out. No food or water and a 40-minute walk out in the dark. I'm a bit tired.
