Why don't yall 2TC?

I’ve been up every tree I’ve climbed with 2TC this season and only had issue on one tree that was covered in poison ivy. I’m out of excuses to not use 2TC. I haven’t brought my one stick once. I do think being limber, a healthy weight, and relatively in shape are necessity for maximizing the utility of this climbing method, but if you’re those things and want less bulk and weight it’s hard to beat.

Me too. 2TC is the only method I have used so far, and it has been working great. It has totally replaced sticks for me. Everything I need fits in one backpack and weights basically nothing. I have been up high in some pretty big diameter trees too. I'm loving 2TC.

I would have had some problems with that poison ivy tree too, as in I would not have climbed it, lol. I would have picked another tree, or it would have been a hunt for the live from the ground thread.

It was a mess. It was small diameter tree (like 8-10” and had one poison vine and several other non poison vines that I left so I cut it and pulled the poison ivy vine down. Then climbing the tree it twisted a lot and I struggled to not swing around which made progressing difficult. Then climbing down I was swinging again. It’s almost like it had multiple leans in it and it kept trying to throw me off the high side. There were bushes below the tree where the poison ivy I cut fell and sure enough when I got close to the ground it swung me around and pushed me against the poison I had I already cut lol. Luckily I only got minor rashes. I won’t be fooling with a poison ivy tree again. The bad thing is the ivy have or are starting to lose their leaves and at night it’s hard to tell what trees have the poison ivy vine if they’re still small vines. That’s bit me in the past too.

I climbed a tree that had a corkscrew lean to it a while back. I bet I went 3/4 of the way around the tree in the process of staying on the high side of the lean. It was a hard barked slick tree too. It was the least fun of all the one's I have climbed so far. I fought gravity the whole time. I never felt unsafe, just aggravated. Most trees have been a breeze compared to using sticks last season. I was tired last fall just carrying the sticks into the spot, even before unpacking them and putting them on the tree.

I am highly susceptible to poison ivy so I assume any vine is poison ivy even though it might be Virginia creeper of something else.

A couple weeks ago I had to do a throw rope retrieval. Climbed the closest tree. I wasn't paying attention, just wanted my rope back. Well while I'm climbing I notice I am crushing some pretty significant vines along the way. Retrieve my rope, walked out, took a piss, went home. Shouldn't have taken the piss. Wife hasn't touched me since. HaHa - Dang.

I wish I didn’t know how you feel. Seems to happen to me once a year. It’s the worst. Luckily I’ve never had direct contact so it’s only ever been mild reaction. Mild is still too much. Hang in there brother! Haha

For the record, the vines contain just as much oil as the leaves. The leaves will fall but still get you in the winter from the vine. It’s awful.

There are a few spots I have that are bad about poison ivy and I just hunt those off the ground. I guess it depends on how allergic you are to it. I don't chance it since a good case of the ivy might sideline me for a few weeks and make me absolutely miserable.

Do you clear them with gloves on? Do you clear them out pre-season or on the fly?

No gloves and on the fly. I guess it is scared of me because it knows I am going to rip it down and throw it to the chiggers. I dont get chiggers because I throw poison ivy on them. ;)

You’re a bad man!
Hardly, just fortunate to not be bothered by itchy vines or chiggers. As a kid I had severe allergies to every plant and animal they tested for. Years of high dosed meds for that I guess resulted in not reacting to the vines. Also generally went barefoot or flip flops running around in the river bottoms and got chiggers literally by the hundred on each leg most weekends for all the months they are out, for years. Think I just developed an immunity to them.
