Why don't yall 2TC?

In a tree like you are describing I would use my climbing rope and girth hitch it with a paracord release to extract it once I got down. I am sure you are girth hitching your tether already. At least I could rapell down, and then use my paracord to release my climbing rope.

It makes sense to 2TC on a pole like you are describing, and on a tree with too many branches to get a preset via a throw ball.
99% of the trees I encounter are straight poles up to 50 feet of so. 2tc is a natural for them. The first year I got into Drt I went in the summer and preset about 15 trees with throwball and paracord. Man, I was excited. I ended up hunting zero of those trees during the season since none of them produced acorns that year. In the following two seasons I hunted one of those trees. It is just too hard to predict which one of ten thousand trees in a section is going to be the hot tree when fall rolls around. Presets would work wonders if I were baiting and could dump a sack of corn out under my preset tree but as it stands, that isn't happening.

I also found that when I did have a tree preset and can hunt it, I always end up using a regular tether to hang off of since my tie in point is almost always well above where I end up wanting to hunt and also it tends to be on the wrong side of the tree from where I want to face so I have to use a tether for a redirect.

If rope climbing is working for you under hunting conditions, then that is awesome. I just could not make it work for mobile hunting in the woods I hunt.

Made my first real practice run at 2TC yesterday. I think it has potential to make me use 2TC only except where I have rope access presets set.

What I did notice is that it seemed the smallest details can make a huge difference in smoothly making your way up the tree or feeling like your wrestling a mountain lion while dangling from a rope.

Small details to be adjusted-
- tether direction around tree
- direction the girth hitch is facing on tree
- distance between two tethers
- length of bridge
There’s probably more but those jump out to me.

Something I played with that I think has potential to be helpful is clipping a carabiner from a very tight secondary bridge around the vertical line of your foot loop so that it can freely glide up and down. This would eliminate the need for the “leg wrap.” My secondary bridge was a little to loose for this purpose, but I think if it was very tight it could work well. Has anybody messed around with something similar? Any success?

Congratulations on a successful climb! Yes, the small details make a big difference. That said, they will come as second nature pretty soon if you keep practicing. Good luck. It really is a great way to get up a tree under hunting conditions.

Yep, a second attach point to yr foot tether has been done, but good on you for thinking of it yrself!!!
I have a video of the idea and used a simple knut or michoacan hitch rather than just a carabiner so it wouldn't get in my way but was easily adjustable.

I’ve gotta try this method some day. What’s the best video out there demonstrating it? Or someone put out an even better one for everyone’s viewing pleasure!

IMO, everyone needs to know this. You can drop your pack and rappelling gear or kick out your sticks but you should always have your tether and linemans on your saddle.

No matter what, 2TC will always get you down.

Great setup, I bet that Buck didn't sneak in behind you
Oh he 100% tried to wind me. He got nervous at 30 yards walking the bank before I got a clear shot and turned away toward the water. He then walked about 5-7 yards into the water then came around my back side. He was almost directly down wind of me and I knew I didn’t have much time so I went ahead and shot down on him. That’s why he got dropped in the water. These deer live in the water. I’ve seen them swim across an inlet instead of walking 30 yards around. I just took the picture of the 2TC set up after I had dragged him back on dry ground. Lol
