Why don't yall 2TC?

I one stick with a 3 step aider (both amsteel and webbing style) and never have a kick out… but I can’t do a single step aider with the single point pendulum type attachment without a kick out. So for me this is the biggest drawback to 2tc so far. But I’m wondering if there’s another way to polish this turd and make it a viable backup option(for me). I’ll have to play around with it but figured I’d crowd source any lessons learned
Are you pointing your toe against the tree like a ballerina or folding your toes up the tree using the tread of your boot for traction with your knee also against the tree as a second higher contact to clamp the tree with your other leg like a vise grip ?

I point my toe like they taught me in ballerina school

One thing that helps is offsetting the tethers. I don't bother with putting the feet against the tree with the foot twther
 
Did a couple trips up and down with this as my bottom tether and the webbing felt a lot better under foot and more stable than the single point rope foot loop.

This is what I used for foot loop. $15 for 2…. I don’t trust the climbing ratings but it’s plenty strong for this.

I like it, does it pull down evenly and prevent the two legs of footloop from coming in towards each other? I tried something that was more like a tree squeeze but this looks simpler

It pulled down straight/evenly. The legs tried to pull together until I added the castration bands, then they stayed put.
 
What cord are we using to secure auxiliary carabiners to our ropes? Paracord IV? Is it possible to buy that a local big box store? Haven’t found any high tensile cordage when I’ve looked
 
Why is that better? Simply for a better interface or actual safety? Just trying to understand. I appreciate the feedback!
I want a sperate hitch for my foot loop and branch passing connection point because I like to pass branches by getting my main tether and secondary/footloop tether right beneath the branch to pass, which means to keep slack out I need the foot loop and bridge connection point to be spread out farther then a single attachment point would allow

Yep I highly recommend a wide footloop, makes everything feel more stable and comfortable. But the 2TC ninjas who just use rope will tell you thats not #trad2TC.

One last question. If I chose to shorten a length of climbing rope (sterling, predator, canyon, whatever), i simply burn the tag end so it won’t fray, correct?
Pretty much. A length of shrink wrap helps a lot as well. I like to burn the end, put on some shrink wrap, then add some crazy glue to the exposed end inside of the shrink wrap. Seems to keep it all together well.
 
So they say necessity is the mother of all inventions. Well, necessity drove me to pursue an idea.

I have found I prefer to use the thigh band. It makes me more stable as I move up the foot tether which enables me to relax. However I don’t like walking in with it on. For clarification I’m using the 2TC set from CGM (the new one with essentially 2 foot tethers). I’ve been toying with a way to modify the thigh loop so I can take it on and off easily at the base of the tree. Well, I went out Thursday and did some more practicing and since them I have apparently lost the thigh loop. As I was looking for it I happened to stumble across my backband, one I had bought a few years ago from a small maker, Bravo Company. That got the wheels to turning.

This back band works well other than it will sort of collapse on itself because of the design so I had previously added the three pieces of green stiff webbing to keep it open. They worked well. They also will hold a 1” webbing strap through them. I can then take and put this back band around my thigh inside/out and fasten that 1” web strap around my thigh to keep it in place while I climb. That puts the long running piece of webbing that would run through the bridge carabiner looped back behind my thigh and out of the way. I then just clipped into the loops each end of the actual back band and viola, dual purpose back band and thigh loop.

The weight is not too bad either at 9.2 oz plus whatever carabiner and prussik I use. And it’s pretty small.

So now to get with Jerry and see if he has any better ideas to modify one of his back bands towards this purpose. His have the main support webbing running through the center so they should be more comfortable as a back band anyway.

I know this would not be life-supporting but I’m already securely tethered in to my saddle anyway, this just needs to support the weight of my leg.

Helped me to drop one piece of gear this way.

The other thing I did not like was standing on one foot with my leg wrapped around the tree. I want to try two-foot loops with a linesman rope. Without me searching through 3000 posts is a video of someone climbing with two-foot loops?

I do remember it being mentioned and I know at one point Jerry at CGM offered a double foot loop with a bridge between them that would probably work pretty good for that. You might reach out to him, he might still offer it. I imagine you would NOT want to try it with two independent foot loops as the tendency to kick out could be worse.

A lot of times I climb 1-stick with a lineman’s just for that added sense of stability, it helps me to relax as I climb and keeps me from sweating and such so much. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with this method, especially with double foot loops.
